The 'Outfit Look-Alikes' Thread

I find it so weird that demna went back to the archives in such a literal way.

The models who wore the couture looks at Balenciaga were even holding the cards with the number of the look!

The black puffy dress is also a poor-man's copy of a white gown from the sixties... The original one looks way better tho.

And the ballon is the same as one from 1958.

I love how Stella McCartney always rips off something from Céline's previous collection :rolleye:

I find it unbelievable the amount of praise this Balenciaga collection is getting in the press. It's a true testament to the fact Demna relies so heavily on styling-it's cool because it is styled with the giant bag, the stocking boot/pant and the "J'Adore Dior" rip-off sunglasses from like 2001. If ANY other designer showed those last few "couture" looks not styled that way they'd be ripped apart for being "stuck in the past" or "too feminine."

He also didn't even attempt to change a single thing, and to add insult to injury the originals look 100% better. The black tiered dress is a mess.

Whilst I am a beliver that Balenciaga should have never been re-opened once Cristobal left the building, I wanted to be fair to Demna who did the couture part to celebrate the centenary year of the house with a side note that the originals were so good (who'd argue!) that he felt he didn't need or want to change anything about them. So it was a tribute.

Personally, I feel that the brilliance of Balenciaga himself was the sheer fact of creating impeccable and unforgettable couture pieces with a feeling of fantasy and lightness about them. The "tribute" felt heavy and bulky, nothing magical about it.

Well, the bird shape was pretty much Marcel Rochas' original idea. Not that it matters anymore.

sharon wauchob fall 2017

céline fall 2017 about a week later..

:rolleye:

I like both.. but doesn't feel that fair for sharon considering her business is independent, she's hardly featured in publications or consumed the way céline is.. and of course she won't be credited for anything.

I'm not sure if you're attempting to say that Céline knocked off Sharon's look? Or that Céline will just outshine the designer in general?

It just seems coincidental that both looks offer similar concepts but really they're still very different in the end!
