Couldn't find a place for discussion on all things theatre-y here. I see ridiculous amounts of theatre but I don't know if anyone else goes and what you all see. Anyway for (a tiny) bit of what I've seen recently;

Catch Me If You Can, Broadway. Starring Aaron Tveit & Norbet Leo Butz


Anything Goes, Broadway. Starring Sutton Foster.


Arcadia, Broadway. Starring Billy Crudup, Tom Riley & Raul Espraza


Legally Blonde, London. Currently starring Susan McFadden



Also the brilliant, brilliant Jerusalem on Broadway with the equally brilliant mark Rylance and Mackenzie Crook.

In London I'd also highly recommend Flare Path starring Sienna Miller and James Purefoy. One Man, Two Guvnors starring James Corden and Pygmalian starring Rupert Everett and Kara Tointon.

How was Catch me if you can? I've heard such mixed things about it

I really enjoyed it. The 1960's tv show concept didn't always work and if you're not into the jazz/swing style of music then maybe the score won't go down well, but performance wise I think it's been horribly under-sold. Norbet, Tom Wopat and Kerry Butler are all fantastic but Aaron, I thought, was superb. His voice is incredible.

My town isn't big in theatre, but I go to shows when I can! Especially out-of-towners that are huge theatre stars in NYC or Chicago.

I saw Wit once upon a time. Lots of complicated dialogue but well-written.

I'm down with this thread, although I have to say I can't really stand musicals. plays are where it's at for me


saw this recently as it was shown in cinemas around the world. it was excellent

Ghost the Musical has just started it's run in London. It's interesting, just the technicalities of it if nothing else. For me the score is a it of a damp squib!

War Horse, currently running in the West End & Broadway. I really truly can't recommend this enough. It's a tear jerker, but I'd say see it, I think it'll be more enriching than the film tbh.

Was at the opening night of Richard III at the Old Vic last night. Absolutely stunning and has got rave reviews. It's starring Kevin Spacey & directed by Sam Mendes. It runs in London until September the company will then embark on an international tour including the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Spain’s Centro Niemeyer, Hong Kong Arts Festival and Singapore Repertory Theatre, arriving at BAM’s Harvey Theater in New York in January 2012. If you get a chance to see it do so.

If you are near Massachusetts at can go to the Williamstown Theatre festival have an incredible production of A Streetcar Named Desire starring Sam Rockwell & Jessica Hecht. It only runs to July 3rd though.

Honestly does nobody else go to the theatre?

The brilliant Rosencrantz & Gulidernstern at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London starring former History Boys Samuel Barnett & Jamie Parker. It's utterly fabulous & of course, really funny! If you liked the Oldman/Roth film version, you'll love this!

If you're not really a theatre person, don't think you're much of a musicals person or just a Green Day fan, I can't recommend American Idiot enough. It's absolutely stunning, starts it's North American tour in December (all dates below), honestly, even if you don't normally go to the theatre, drag yourself along to this it's pure brilliance!

I saw How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying with Daniel Radcliffe and John Laroquette on Broadway a couple of weeks ago. I may be completely biased (Potterhead), but I thought it was phenomenal. It was so funny and the cast was brilliant. It's kind of indescribable, but totally worth seeing. I've also seen Lion King, Phantom of the Opera and Chicago - in that order. Really liked Chicago when I saw it last year. I'd like to see Billy Elliot sometime soon.

Oh, and I cannot get 'Brotherhood of Man' out of my head. Really catchy tune. ​

Glad you enjoyed How to Succeed, it's a really fun show.

I saw Henry IV parts I & 2 last week at the Theatre Royal in Bath directed by the legendary Sir Peter Hall. Granted I'm rather attached to one of the beardy handsome men in the cast (yes, that's right the one on the left LOL) but both productions are wonderful. Would really recommend it.

Nick Jonas to replace Dan Radcliffe and Darren Criss on Broadway

Nick Jonas, the youngest and arguably the most talented of the Jonas Brothers, will be taking over the role of J. Pierrepont Finch currently being played by Daniel Radcliffe in the Broadway musical sensation, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

As we previously announced, Dan will complete his run of the show at the end of the year and Darren Criss, Harry Potter himself from The Harry Potter Musical and Sequel fame, will be beginning his performances on January 3 and go through January 23, 2012.

Upon Darren's completion, Nick Jonas will take the leading role over on January 24th and go until July 1st, 2012. Ironically, Nick is also trying to get cast alongside Darren Criss in 'Glee'.

Nick is not new to the Broadway stage as he has performed in several plays including: Annie Get Your Gun in 2001, Beauty and the Beast in 2002, and Les Miserables in 2003. According to a recent article:

"This is going to be an exciting journey. It's great to come back to Broadway. I always said my return to Broadway would have to feel right - the right role at the right time. This felt right."

Oh dear god. I love Darren Criss and Daniel Radcliffe, but... to be succeeded by a Jonas brother?!

I think Dan's done a great job, I saw him very early on in his run and then later and he'd improved no end. I think getting Darren Criss is inspired and it's such a shame he hasn't got a longer run. I have to say, I rolled my eyes about Nick, I know very little about the Jonas brothers as a whole but I did see him in Les Miserables both in the WE and at the concert as Marius and I have to admit he wasn't as bad as I thought and the score for HTSIBWRT is so much easier to sing than Les Mis so we'll see. I see the producers point of view, it's the only way they can stay open after Daniel leaves, the show wouldn't survive without a star name. It would never have got staged without Dan's attachment in the first place.
