Thermal Reconditioning/Japanese Straightening System for hair

My roommate had it done. It looked good and lasted until her hair grew out. Upon which time she got wavy roots trying to curl and had to flat-iron her roots. I have straight hair though so it would be stupid for me to do.

I would love to do this just for the convenience of never having to straighten my hair.
But it's not particularly unruly to begin with...I have straight wavy hair...its glossy but I can't let it naturally dry and wear it down because it gets frizz at the ends. I usually spend about 30-60 mins straightening it when I go out because it is so thick.

I guess I am just lazy...
Do you think it is worth the money?

Oh...one mory sorry...is it possible to curl your hair if you want to?
I suspect curls wouldn't hold...?

Curls would hold. My friend did put her hair in plaits , slept in it and the next morning? curls. Even though she had already permanent straight her hair..

Some time ago I was very tempted to have this done. I have always been skinny, and my poofy, coarse, dry hair would dwarf my face!! :D

But then I heard Japanese chemical straightening is similar to relaxing Afro hair... which worried me because in the long run, relaxing tends to ruin the hair esp as you have to have it redone when your roots grow out etc

So to anyone who has had this done: after the initial smooth, silky feel does your hair start to feel more damaged again?
