Most recently known for her stint on CW's Gossip Girl as Raina Thorpe, Chuck Bass' one time main squeeze and BET's The Game as vixen Jenna Rice this fabulous girl has been stepping out and showing her fashion mettle and flawless skin. Also she has a voice people and is also working on honing that skill so an album may be in her future.

As businesswoman and man-magnet Raina Thorpe on Gossip Girl, actress Tika Sumpter is one of the newest members to the Upper East Side. And what does that mean, exactly? It means she spends her work day kissing the likes of Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford, and playing dress-up in the best fashion closet around. You certainly need some nerve to pull off some of the get-ups Eric Daman comes up with, and Ms. Sumpter is no wallflower. In a photoshoot with OK! Magazine, Tik shows off Spring's boldest new trends — tribal, ‘70s, and knock-your-socks-off color.

What's it like being in the wardrobe department on Gossip Girl?: "It's every girl’s dream. You walk into wardrobe and there are clothes everywhere!" They've opened up my world of fashion."

How are you like your GG character, Raina?: "She's strong; she's very clear about the decisions she makes. And I like her style with boys! I wish I could be that bold. I put on my Raina hat whenever I want to talk to a guy!"

What was it like kissing Ed and Chace?: "There’s no wine and candles! Ed and I had a couple of rehearsals where I was just lying on top of him, staring at him. He's like, 'Yep.' He says funny things to make us relax."

The Making of A Gossip Girl

When Tika Sumpter, took a front row seat at the BCBG Max Azria show, which kicked off the New Yorker’s first (her word) “legit” New York Fashion Week experience, she was surprised by the sheer intensity of it all.

“When I used to see pictures of all of these celebrities posing together at the shows, I actually believed that they were really good friends,” she says. But since she’s taken on a starring role on Gossip Girl and begun navigating the weird and wonderful fashion world, she’s learned different.

“Most of them don’t know each other at all!” she laughs. “I got to that show and it really felt like the first day of school. I didn’t want to seem too eager, but I didn’t want to seem too cool either, you know?” she says with a girl’s girl level of candor. All jitters aside, she was a hit, smiling for photo-ops beside Jennifer Love Hewitt and Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson. “Everyone was really nice,” Tika admits.

Like most actors, Tika, has had a few lives. But none of them required the fashion muscle she’s had to begin exercising since she leapt from daytime television, where she starred on the soap opera One Life to Live for five years to the gilded, designer label outfitted world of Gossip Girl. As the new diva on the Upper Eastside, Raina Thorpe, she now stirs things up on screen alongside Chanel muse Blake Lively and Missoni campaign girl Leighton Meester, two actresses who know all about the power of a memorable personal look.

Tika says she’s begun to think about clothing in a whole new way. “Honestly, Gossip Girl opened my world. The wardrobe is incredible. Learning about so many designers has been really exciting,” Tika says over the phone from New York in an enviably smoky voice that hints at her former days as a singer. She then breaks down the before and after. “Pre-Gossip Girl, I dressed for comfort. It was kind of boho chic,” she explains. But now, she focuses on the details. “The way something as simple as a shoe or belt can lift your whole outfit,” she elaborates.

And then there’s that all-important balance between high and low, which she has become a master at achieving. “I recently bought these Balenciaga trousers that I’m really excited about. And then I bought another pair from Fendi. I’m really into the flared leg right now,” she says. Those pieces hang in her closet beside dresses from Target and Anthropologie. “I’ve learned that everything doesn’t have to be high-end. It’s about mixing and matching things and wearing what works best for you,” she says.
