Tilda Swinton

I knew of her from Derek Jarman's Edward II but yeah it was really Orlando that made Tilda's name. I wrote on Sally Potter's film during grad school - know it like the back of my hand. ^_^

yes in fact both carvaggio(her first role ever) and edward II were absolute masterpieces. but it was indeed orlando where she made her mark internationally, especially here in the states. i have watched orlando upwards of 100 times since they re-released it on DVD. it remains my favourite film. that labyrinth scene is easily one of the most haunting things i've seen in cinema.

Haunting, yes, and transcendent! Love that scene. Have you read the book? I love it too.

I've seen Caravaggio (and also Wittgenstein), plus bits of The Last of England. Jarman was a visionary. Sad he left so soon.

Looking forward to seeing Tilda as a vampire, along with Hiddleston, directed by Jarmusch. I didn't see the last film she did with him. Perhaps I'll get my hands on that over the holidays.

Only Lovers Left Alive first still:

looks pretty cool. interesting though that jarmusch decided to tap into a theme that is currently so trendy in the mainstream. however,it feels very 80's/90's noir just by the shot alone. which is very much his style. so i'm very curious to see it.

NPJ,i have read the book...love it too.

That shot makes me think of The Hunger a little bit - can't wait!

I think vampires need to be reappropriated from the Twilight realm; hopefully this film resurrects the undead and saves us from all those twee sympathetic bloodsuckers.

From what i understand jarmush had this script / idea for years and had been meaning to do this film since forever. The fact that vampires are so hit right now maybe helped with the foundings etc. Im so excited for this film

purely coincidental then....or the timing couldn't be more perfect for this to finally get going? will be interesting how with the vampire obsession how people respond. if the twees pick up on the subject matter......run to see it.....and end up getting signature jarmusch instead.

but i agree with you NPJ,and that's exactly what i was thinking too...the vampire genre needs another redefining.....like it actually did in the 80's by taking it out of that cliched gothic horror narrative.

Tilda is on the new video of David Bowie "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" hanging out with Bowie (of course), Saskia de Brauw, Iselin Steiro & Andrej Pejic.

great video! not sure i like the actual song though...was hoping it would sound like the beginning. but i love the concept....the stalkers become the stalked. and tilda, she could hawking depends and she would still be divine as ever.

Well I worship Floria Sigismondi; she's so fabulous with videos, consistently, not to mention other visual artistic work, like her exhibit years back - Come Part Mental. (And I liked what she did with the Runaways too)

And then throw Swinton and Bowie into the mix. It's Style & Coolness overload!

Tilda Swinton is Chanel's latest muse

Actress Tilda Swinton has been chosen by Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld to front the campaign for the brand's latest Métiers d'Art collection, Paris-Edimbourg.

The 52-year-old actress has been chosen as the face of the French fashion house's pre-fall Paris-Edimbourg collection, which was showcased at Linlithgow Palace last December.

"Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Edimbourg collection. She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance," declared Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel.

Though Swinton was born and bred in England, her father was a member of the Scots Guards and later Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire, her paternal great-grandfather was Scottish politician, and her maternal great-great-grandfather was Scottish botanist John Hutton Balfour. She now resides in Nairn, overlooking the Moray Firth in the Highland region of Scotland with her twin sons and artist partner Sandro Kopp and has often spoken of her love for the country.

The Cambridge-educated actress won an Oscar in 2007 for her role in Michael Clayton , and is known for her alternative personal style.

The campaign, which was shot by Lagerfeld at the Château d'Ecouen, a Renaissance-period castle located near Chantilly, France, will appear in fashion publications from June.

^this should be epic because tilda is epic but the photographer is karl so i think i will tune down my excitement till i see the campaign

After watching that music video it just makes so much sense that David Bowie and Tilda would collaborate, they are like a perfect match. Tilda looks amazing in the video, the whole thing is wonderful, but of course I especially love the clothes she wore (especially the number that she wears in the grocery store). And it's an interesting commentary on the notion of celebrity, leave it to Bowie to make you think!

Tilda fronting a campaign for Chanel sounds like the most innovative thing the house has done in seasons! Even though I wasn't crazy about that collection I'm looking forward to seeing the ads.

tilda for chanel!!! that's one of the most exciting news i hear recently!

Tilda is so much cooler than Chanel's clothes at the moment, I'm sure it will turn out fine, but I'm not excited about the pairing.
