Tokyo sales

so you are in Tokyo?
Lift etage & Lift ecru, they are twin stores. so don't miss ecru when you visit etage.
Daikanyama could be regarded as a part of a certain wide area including Ebisu, Nakameguro, Namikibashi. although it's impossible to mention all the good stores, you might like Rip Van Winkle, Attachment, Julius, White, Taishi Nobukuni, Celt & Cobra, Lad Musician, Paranoid...based on the white Costume National shoes you posted.

I already plan a trip to Tokyo this Christmas. I've been there a couple of times before, but found those big stores like 0101, Parco, Seibu not very interesting. Most of the clothes I tried before made by local brands fit small and the sleeves are too short. To get stuff from European designers in tokyo is super expensive, at least that was my impression, and I am not interested in stuff like Bathing Ape. I did not go to Tokyo for the last 2, 3 years. So I expect things are now dfiferent as Japanese designers like Jun, Tsumori are getting more popular in the runway. I'll definitely will go to see Lift etage and ecru. Is the new Hussein Chalayan shop interesting ? Too bad I can't read Japanese, and can only see the pictures from men's non-no but can never read the names of the designers.

then, if it's something interesting to wear that you're looking for, drop Roppongi hills.
in Daikanyama, Via Bus Stop could be good as well. and Chalayan store is run by VBS.
a fan of his stuff would find the store fun.

also, there are lots of stores you might like in Aoyama/Harajuke district (Costume National, Under Cover, etc).
Carol Christian Poell and Ato (which has its store in Aoyama), their sleeves would not be short, although they're narrow. Menichetti and some of Rick Owens menswear would be generous. all is cool and available there.

given the letters or attached file, the names should be figured out.

amazing.. i think i would prefer to come to tokyo when it is warmer...if everyone is wearing a coat in winter...i'll miss all the fabulous fashion, no??? :innocent:

true, but really, i think most people would want to fall over after seeing what the "average" japanese person wears ^^;; maybe its better if they cover it up with a coat....

heh...but seriously, the best times for fashion are fall and spring. i personally think the fall really brings out the fun stuff ;)

Runner,I saw pictures of that Under Cover shop. Looks absolutely brilliant. It reminds me of a cannister box. OT-I'm starting to appreciate Takahashi alot of late. Whereas before,I felt a bit confused and put off by the lack of continuity.

Oh yes, what about that Cosmic Wonder shop? That space looks extremely stark and minimal. At least from the vantage point I saw.

another two photos of Undercover lab

Jun Takahashi actually does attempt something confusing at intervals, since maybe he has a bit warped personality (you can see that in the lab).
on the other hand, for a fact, he's been dedicating his life to the creations in real earnest. and his latest collection is one of my favorites for A/W 04.
btw, rumour has it that he'll take over from Rei. only time will tell though.

I have never been to CW store because I used to be able to see the stuff at Beams.
but Beams dropped CW for men this fall, so I'll visit its own store and report back to you.
a book named "the dress attachable a wall" is in print.

Runner, what is your opinion of Mastermind Japan? I didn't see any collection pictures on their website.

Runner,I agree. I think that this Autumn collection is what did for me from Jun. Then I went and took a look at the previous collections and I started to get it.

Thanks for being our roving Tokyo reporter  I hope these requests aren't annoying you ;)

Now I must have that book!!

I have seen the pics of the undercover lab beofr, it's wodnerful

I love teh a/w collection, it's really amazing

I love Undercover

Runner, I read a couple of magazines talking about Ato recently. That's how he describes his A/W collection 2004 in Esquire. Not sure where to find more pictures.

"What is also fascinating is the way trends develop by season, mostly unplanned and uncontrolled. It is like something is in the air and we all smelled or tasted it. Perphaps designers are inspired or influenced by the same movie, an exhibition at an art gallery, a photo shoot in a particular magazine. We never really know, but it seems that trends are born this way. For Autumn/Winter 2004, we notice that many brands used classic fabrics treated in a contemporary manner. There is also an increased awareness and use of details that balance form and function and make a fashion statement in the process.

For ato, Autumn/Winter 2004 is about shades of silver and grey.. coated cottons and wools... futuristic forms... long and lean suiting.. covered buttons and buckles.. fashion as accessory, adding spice to string, simple silhouettes..."

I like Ato, Barneys carried them for two seasons a few years ago. Of course they dropped them, like so many other brands that are fashion forward but not commercial.

thanks for the extract, boxma.

here is their website.

I like his A/W 00 collection, but I failed to find it.
A/W 02 is also nice in my opinion.

a/w 04 reminds me a bit of Helmut Lang. Their stuff appears to be pretty easy and accessible.

Thanks, Runner. I saw a picture of a beautiful unfinished coat by him, a la CDG/JW in the current issue of Vogue Hommes International, that's what caught my attention.
