Tom Ford : Life after Gucci

Hmm, the entrance is a little less Tom Ford then I was expecting.

Still, I can't wait to go and see the interior.

I agree, but maybe it will look better if the shot was a little wider. Ah, this is too exciting! ^_^

Pretty snazzy facade. It is kind of surprisingly traditional, isn't it?

And does the press have any samples of the clothes, or is this really as secretive as it makes itself out to be?

God, I cant wait for the shoes! I need more shoes!

The entrance isn't what I was expecting either, it's very typical upper-Madison Avenue, everyone has a facade like that. Im going to Missoni today so Ill pop by Tom Ford, if I can find my camera Ill take pics (like the crazed obsessed fashion-victim)

You and me both! I am experiencing Tom withdrawal and I need my fix.
And please do take a photo!

It's quite underwhelming from outside, I did get a peek inside and the entrance foyer features a black mahogany desk draped w/ gold metallic croc skin!! VERY Tom!!

One week until opening...

^Sounds cool, I really like the idea, but I'm just realizing its ridculous-ness. Only in fashion does metallic crocodile decor not really phase anyone.

^ Or ponyhair floors, the YSL on Madison had ponyhair floors...That was sooo fabulous, they're gone now though...

Im positive Monsieur Ford will be at the opening, right? Im sooo gonna be decked out in Tom Ford-era Gucci and YSL (yes, Ill victimize myself for Tom's attention).

Well the first look was unveiled today in DNR (modeled by Tom). A dark grey 3 pc suit with very wide peaked lapels, a peak of a shirt (in black and white so hard to tell the color) and a silk pindot foulard. Of course there is also a bit of chest hair peeking out.
I can't say I'm impressed. You can walk into YSL right now and buy the same thing and just have non-surgeon cuffs.

"It's clear that the Tom Ford label will represent masculine clothing designed for men rather than boys. Let Thom Browne experiment with cropped pants. Let Dior Homme favor anorexic silhouettes. Ford's affinity for suits with unapologetic wide lapels and angular proportions could serve as a counterblance to the shrinking shapes so prevalent in men's fashion."--DNR

I think this might be a blessing in saving much $ as I am not that fond of peak lapels...let alone WIDE lapels. I'm hoping the sportswear offers something more mouth watering.

I adore peak lapels, they are sooo flattering, Im wearing my Dolce peak lapel blazer right now, peak lapels are a great look on me. Anyway, we dont get DNR anymore...how depressing...

Ach, my thoughts are so scattered, like a junkie (well...)

Anyway, Im excited for this, Tom can cut like noone else and I miss the sex appeal he brought to menswear, noone has the same playboy sex appeal like Tom. Dsquared is club kid sex appeal, Dolce is metrosexual sex, Dior is asexual...Tom is just, classy sex.

From the picture on the DNR website, I can't say it's too exciting. It doesn't look very special. Just a fashion-y Brioni or Kiton (or whichever suiting labels). I was expecting something more, I guess.

hopefully wwd will have more pics tomorrow...

here's the pic from fnrnews.com

I have faith that it'll be more then just a classic 3-piece suit. This is Tom Ford afterall.

Seriously though, I wish he was doing womenswear too. His menswear was sexy and always elegant, but his womenswear far surpassed his mens stuff.

Sneak Peek: In New Store, Tom Ford Loves Beaver

09_tomford_lg.jpg

The first-ever Tom Ford store at Madison Avenue and 70th Street, set to open Thursday, is a sprawling, two-story, 10,000-square-foot uber-bachelor pad and the flagship for his new collection of men's clothing, a collaboration with Ermenegildo Zegna (even if only Ford's name appears on it.). Early this afternoon, Ford, dressed in a three-piece suit and pocket square, gave a private tour to select reporters. Cathy Horyn and Eric Wilson from the Times were both there; so was Time Style & Design editor Kate Betts, a former Harper's Bazaar chief. The place is quintessential Ford, dripping with sex. There are beaver rugs throughout — wink, wink — and a giant metalwork sculpture in the foyer that's also very beaverlike. The place is designed to look like and feel like a fancy residence — there are butlers and housekeepers (dressed in traditional uniform) who circulate. There's a hidden elevator with upholstered walls, fireplaces, a bar and, you guessed it, smoking jackets. Except Ford calls them dressing gowns. They're patterned silk and cost a cool $3,900. —Jonathan S. Paul
