UK Harper’s Bazaar December 2019 : Cate Blanchett by Tom Munro

Helena's cover is giving me every judgmental aunt during the holidays vibe. I am living.

Though she deserved better tbh. Its kitschy, I'd concede. But it doesn't exude the glamour of a cover.

Jorja Smith by Richard Phibbs:

Of all Jorja's pics, they chose that to put on the cover? Shameful!

I would have loved a femme fatale Ruth Wilson cover, but I'm just glad I don't have to see one with Alexa Chung in her nightie.

So this is indeed Justine's last issue as per her editor's letter! Really the end of an era for Harper's and her tenure ended up even stronger than Lucy's in terms of identity. You could always point a Harper's cover or edit amongst a sea of others. Where will we get our dose of frothy fantasy from now? MC is dead, Vogue is too concerned with identity politics, and Elle, well too soon to tell.
I wonder what will happen to the likes of Leith, Miranda, and Charlie, who has been churning out the same aesthetic issue after issue to the point that I cannot tell who styled which. Where will they go because the print media is not really open to this dreamy and saccharine styling anymore? Leith is Keira Knightley's stylist and I'm not sure if she's still at Violet. But Miranda and Charlie worked for this magazine almost exclusively. Maybe they will surprise all of us by falling in line with the new order just as Kate Phelan is doing under Edward.

Town and Country will be fine with a reshuffle, but I doubt whether the new EIC at Harper's would be able to come in with a direction entirely opposite to Justine's. For starters the existing readers are more mature. I'm sure the acting editor will pretty much follow in the current vein until the new hire is announced.

I'll be missin Justine! Love Helena's cover and editorial.

Justine will be missed. Redundant as her covers may seem, the woman had a vision, knew her readers, and stuck with them.

Did not follow her that much, but her magazine was memorable.

The successor has big shoes to fill IMO.
