Nice enough cover. Good they're trying with coverlines (unlike Vogue)

Dodgy editorial inside

effortless, this is the way you make a beautiful cover

I have to buy this issue! Saiorse's cover story/editorial is really beautiful. Good job, HB UK, for producing this kind of quality.

The cover is getting quite a bit of backlash from Irish people and the media as placing "The Spirit of Great Britain" under Saoirse is a bit of a mess on HB's part.

For those of you who don't understand, Irish people are often mistaken for or claimed as being British and it's not taken lightly in Ireland. (Due to years of plantations, slavery, mass homicide, there was literally a war to gain independence from Britain..) Pretty ironic that that headline is placed under a woman whose name literally translates to "freedom" :D

While the headline probably refers to another story, it's still a bit of a risky decision. But perhaps they thought the publicity would be worth it.

Headline aside, Saoirse herself looks beautiful. Stiff, but beautiful.

An Irish actress playing a Scottish queen on the front of a British magazine... people will complain about anything, including a cover line that probably refers to the overall theme of the issue, rather than the nationality of the cover star.

Justine wrote in her editor's letter that the headline and entire theme of the issue is to celebrate unity in the United Kingdom amidst this whole Brexit kerfuffle. Harper's in fact elected to cover and sort of pay tribute to the Mary, Queen of Scots movie as part of their conversation, not really Saoirse. Saoirse just so happens to portray Mary Stuart in the movie. Ultimately it's just a pity that they've overlooked the fact that Saoirse actually hails from the republic and not NI, but I don't think it was done with any malice intended in the greater scheme.

I'm sure Saoirse herself assumed the cover would just be business as usual, that is, plugging her movie. She couldn't have known it's for the British themed issue otherwise I'm sure she'd have said something. Indeed in the interview they did ask her what she thought of Brexit as an Irish.

The Heck/Clark editorials were starting to annoy me with the use of bright colors, but this is toned down and reminds me just what a good combo they can be.

This magazine continues to put the Vogues to shame.

Ronan deserves to be featured, and the regal look is so British and so cool on her.

This is absolutely sublime <3 The difference between HB UK and US couldn't be bigger, could it? US is the definition of cheap and tackiness, whole UK keeps on delivering. Saoirse is a star and photographs like a true dream.

I love the London is Open editorial as well.

the cover is great. i just wish UK vogue took notes about cover design there.

Love the “London is Open” editorial! Now this is how you do a collections editorial. Most editors would just do a simple lazy studio shoot with a bunch of models doing lifeless poses and straight-from-the-runway styling because to them, that’s business as usual. But here, there’s a story and elaborate mise-en-scene that pleases the reader’s eyes.

That's what I thought as well, wanted to respond to HeatherAnne! Even Celine looks like your typical London girls on their way to some posh party. Other than Prada and Celine, the rest of the outfits all align with the aesthetic of this magazine. Mad about the Valentino shot!

How amazing it is that season after season Leith really build a story around her edits as opposed to like you say, just shoot them in a studio. And the contrast between the textbook Erik Madigan Heck cover editorial and the collections one is proof that there are still people in magazines who care about fashion.

Great job!

This is also what I found very impressive. Every shot just feels cohesive, which is a rare quality to find in a collections editorial these days. And major credit must be given for finding ways to make a look as vile as that Calvin Klein dress or as basic as, well, basically anything from MGC’s Dior appealing.
