UK Harper’s Bazaar March 2022 : Cara Delevingne by Pamela Hanson

I miss her energy. She cut her hair and lost it. Like Samson.

Both cover and editorial seem more celebrity- than model-oriented. It is too limited, too humble. Hanson could have gone for gold, but settled for meh. There is so much potential wasted here. Cara deserves better. That said, I am ridiculously happy to see her, regardless of the outcome.

What I’ve realized in recent times is that even most “big name” photographers aren’t anything without a big production. We may complain about Meisel’s endless studio shoots but at least they prove his talent has nothing to do with budgets.

When I read Pamela Hanson, I expected something more thrilling than this. Fortunately, so far the contents sound better, I like their model choices at least.

I've just received my subscription copy...it's about 234 pages, it has a hefty feel, and it has several gatefold adverts (Vuitton, Fendi), which is a good sign for a print magazine. The adverts at the front, for the first 100 or so pages, are solidly high-end names, rather than adverts for jewellery brands on sale in shopping malls. It feels like the adpocalypse never happened, and you're back, looking at a March issue from years ago.

I don't really have time for the giant Dior advertorial that is the cover story. It's nice, but bland, and while I don't mind it, I prefer UK Bazaar to do what it does. 'New Dawn' is being windswept on the beach in semi-darkness, exercising a horse. It's a mood, but it goes on too long, there's not much variation in the images. 'A Turn Around the Grounds' is supplying the usual Bazaar posh garden shoot, but without the crazy colours of Madigan Heck, who is having a rest from this issue. 'Up, Up and Away' is Vanessa Axente walking round an empty seaside town, like a 60s girl who's all dressed up with nowhere to go.

There's also an inerview with Monica Ali, a look at Giorgio Armani, the beauty and travel sections are very short.

As much as the cover story doesn't motivate me, this is a solid issue by UK Bazaar standards. You might not be impressed by the editorials when you see the images, but the issue overall, in your hands - when you include the front of book and everything else - it has the feeling of a healthy magazine.

This cover reminds me of the times of Alexandra shulman at Vogue UK, I like the colors and also the pose !! I love the editorial with Vanessa , even the one on the beach on the horse With Saffron, it's so strange to see editorials from Harper Uk better than those from Vogue US and Vogue Paris!!!!

"New Dawn" is like rediscovering Saffron all over again. I am partial to the darker side of beaches, but all bias aside, this editorial is an understated yet magnificent production, from model casting to photographer choice. Repetitive as some shots may be, the series has substance, entity, tempo. Glorious.

After reading @tigerrouge's review (always such a treat, thank you :flower:!) I was excited to see Vanessa, and "Up, Up, and Away" didn't disappoint. Eerily deserted location, but it actually adds an oneiric, dream-like atmosphere where the styling sits well. Cute with an edge.

The cover is fine & the editorial is bland. I think than Cara lost her sparkle on modelling career. I love the Vanessa's edit & this issue is solid from a March issue.

I kinda like it. It makes me think of Cara the actress/celeb than Cara the model.
