I've just received my subscription copy...it's about 234 pages, it has a hefty feel, and it has several gatefold adverts (Vuitton, Fendi), which is a good sign for a print magazine. The adverts at the front, for the first 100 or so pages, are solidly high-end names, rather than adverts for jewellery brands on sale in shopping malls. It feels like the adpocalypse never happened, and you're back, looking at a March issue from years ago.
I don't really have time for the giant Dior advertorial that is the cover story. It's nice, but bland, and while I don't mind it, I prefer UK Bazaar to do what it does. 'New Dawn' is being windswept on the beach in semi-darkness, exercising a horse. It's a mood, but it goes on too long, there's not much variation in the images. 'A Turn Around the Grounds' is supplying the usual Bazaar posh garden shoot, but without the crazy colours of Madigan Heck, who is having a rest from this issue. 'Up, Up and Away' is Vanessa Axente walking round an empty seaside town, like a 60s girl who's all dressed up with nowhere to go.
There's also an inerview with Monica Ali, a look at Giorgio Armani, the beauty and travel sections are very short.
As much as the cover story doesn't motivate me, this is a solid issue by UK Bazaar standards. You might not be impressed by the editorials when you see the images, but the issue overall, in your hands - when you include the front of book and everything else - it has the feeling of a healthy magazine.
