Just got my print subscription copy, this issue is 186 pages.
The cover does look better in real life, given the vibrancy of the colours in a glossy printed format.
If I was being picky, I would say the cover text tends to get lost against the intensity of the colours, in the way that some serif fonts can, due to parts of the lettering being so 'thin' - and the effect can appear worse in print than it does in digital. But I also wouldn't want a clumpy typeface, it wouldn't have the same elegance.
There is a special limited-edition cover for the new Cartier exhibition at the V&A, of Princess Margaret by Cecil Beaton.
In the main editorial section, the cover story / interview is followed by a location shoot, SING THE BODY ELECTRIC by Agata Pospieszynska, shot at dusk, and the theme is wind, then there's a Nick Knight studio story, OUT OF THIS WORLD, a couture shoot with Lulu Tenney. There's also a feature about pieces in the V&A Cartier event by Justine Picardie.
Going into the summer months, fashion magazines can start to feel like they're scrimping on content, but I don't get that impression from this issue - everything that you get in a standard issue of UK HB is there, it's all very beautiful, and every page talks to you as if you're an adult.
It dawned on me, the other day, that there's a possibility I could receive the cover shot of Billie Eilish leaning against a giant leg as my subscription copy of UK Vogue, and it would represent a new low in what passes for content in what's supposed to be a high fashion magazine.
In contrast, UK HB might seem boring, especially if you're not the target audience, but looking at this issue makes me want to go downstairs and put on some jewellery. It makes me want to take pleasure in those things.
