I love Gary Hume's wallpaper-esque cover. The colours are beautiful and matched with a white masthead and font.. ugh, just wonderful to look at. Stella's limited edition cover for the V&A make her look as if she's floating. The newsstand cover is the best one outta' the six. You also have to applaud Justine Picardie for allowing such an artistic cover to be produced for the stands. Most magazine editors nowadays are playing it safe with compelling cover lines and attractive colours. The cover for subscribers is a little on the boring side, though. It does feel collectable and exclusive but has nothing else interesting about it. I don't know how many more Cathleen Naundorf shoots we're going to have to endure. Yeah, her photographs are beautiful, very different to what other publications are doing. Although there's zero variation.. and now she's shooting covers, ugh. Naundorf's fantastic for couture shoots, I guess.
I still want to echo my sentiments from the June issue's thread, where I mentioned Justine has clearly diverted away from Lucy Yeomans' Bazaar. As I looked through the issue before, I couldn't help but think the magazine is aimed at farmers who love fashion. There's so much photography and features about the British outdoors, outdoor living and the stately homes which occupy the landscape. The Fashion Pack feature is about.. wait for it.. dogs. Yes, they've selected British women (most of who I've never heard of, aside from Jacquetta Wheeler and Leith Clark) and encouraged them to showcase their canines. Apparently dogs are massive this upcoming season.
Maybe the new Harper's Bazaar won't be the magazine I pick up for hardcore fashion content. The accessories pages continue to be very desirable. They're like a breath of fresh air in this particular issue.
