that dress looks weird on this girl... also some pictures are really beautiful...

i think they should try to use some supermodels... this is when MC had it's strenght at its highest...

Maybes Marie Claire's downfall is choosing unknowns for their covers. I'm using the term 'unknowns' loosely, because I had to Google Jennifer. W Magazine has the audience and budget to use fresh stars - and it works. But I can't see the logic here, considering Marie Claire's suggested bad-times.

In all fairness though an 'unknown' is the same as a magazine using a model. There are very few women who can distinguish which model is which, and magazines still put models on their covers.. so to me using a lesser known star to try and sell a magazine is the same as them using a model.

If that makes any sense..

Yes, that does make sense. I was suggesting Marie Claire to use more established celebrities, someone a vast amount of potential readers can identify. Allowing the magazine a few issues to compile a clear direction, give the magazine a reason to purchase. Just until this period of desperation phases out - and then ease into the lesser-known.

A magazine is a magazine at the end of the day, I wouldn't want any of them to sink. As a compulsive magazine reader, Marie Claire outputs nothing on the stands. They've never given me a reason to connect.

Although I'm certain not everyone is like myself, and aren't clued about the latest acting craze. Or which actresses are staring in which upcoming movies.

Perhaps they were banking on her having a higher profile because of X Men, which has no doubt happened and I guess it remains to be seen in terms of sales and interest in this issue if her stock is high enough.

OK I am (was) a little confused about the covers, so there are three covers - newsstand, subscriber and a freebie insert, right?

Jennifer is a very good model to me (and I mean model, not celeb-model) in terms of how clothes look on her and her posing, but I don't think that she is going to resonate with people until she becomes more recognizable and hopefully she is likeable and interesting enough to sustain our interest because as I stated previously she is someone that I want to see more of.

In terms of celebrity profile, I doubt she's at the stage where most people in the UK would recognise her outside of promotional shots from the movie, which makes this an interesting cover.

There's a newstand cover, a subscriber's cover and then a cover they picked for a 'mini' version of the issue which came free inside The Times. It was basically a sampler of the magazine.

I quite like all three covers which they have put out for this issue- although I'm more of a fan of the subscriber and the freebie in the Times. But I'm stoked that Jennifer has a cover of Marie Claire. She's a fantastic actress and I'm glad they put someone who isn't a familiar face on the cover- a little more risky that way.

first cover in this thread is one of the most beautiful covers of this year... so sensitive and emotive. love it
