Underrated Actors

I love Jodie Foster and I'm glad she's not overexposed but she takes on one film year now by choice, and I really miss seeing her.

Johnny Depp is definitely an underrated actor. Sure he does roles that are a bit crazy but he has done roles that are not so crazy but still damn good. He isn't afraid to be different, weird, strange, loving, drag, a bastard, drug addict and so on. He does what he feels is right to him and doesn't always try to be mainstream.

People should see The Libertine, Sleepy Hollow, Blow, Man who Cried and Fear and Loathing Las Vegas. Great examples of his work.He is more than just a good Edward Scissorhands or Captain Jack Sparrow.

I was about to protest, but on second thought I actually kind of have to agree with you here. Although he's certainly a well-regarded and respected actor overall, Johnny Depp gets his main attention from his more whacko roles, Alice in Wonderland being a prime example. He has such range as an actor, and has delivered some truly unforgettable, understated performances, but most people only know him for his colorful, extravagant roles in various Tim Burton films. And Jack Sparrow. And it's those understated roles that have really been under the radar, not Depp per se. I mean, who here can genuinely say that the first movie they think about when they hear the name "Johnny Depp" is Finding Neverland? Secret Window? Benny & Joon? I could go on. All performances as underrated as they are incredible.

^ those types of performances tend to get more attention for any actor and people probably focus on his more eccentric roles because they distinguish him from a lot other actors.

Peter Sarsgaard

She is amazing in The Exorcist and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore also.

Virginia Madsen
Paul Giamatti
Jennifer Tilly

Stanley Tucci (why hasn't he won an Oscar yet?)
Mark Ruffalo
Zoe Saldana
Ed Harris
Chris Cooper
Ralph Fiennes
Don Cheadle
Paul Schneider
Jena Malone
Michelle Williams
Ben Foster (he's so good in 3:10 to Yuma and The Messengers)
Claire Danes
Jesse Eisenberg (amazing in Adventureland and Zombieland)
Anna Paquin

^ I have to agree with Emily Blunt... she's such a great actress but never seems to be the talk of the town (I mean in terms of her movie roles)

Joesph Gordon-Levitt
Zooey Deschanel
Stanley Tucci
Jesse Eisenberg
Rupert Grint (yes I know he's famous for Harry Potter but seriously have you seen his other film Driving Lessons? So good, yet it recieved little press)

Oh I forgot to add Lee Pace (from Pushing Daisies and A Single Man)... I wish he would get more roles he's such a fantatsic actor!

Rupert Grint is pretty awesome. I personally think all the HP trio are (but I know people won't agree).

I can't wait to see Rupert in Cherrybomb and Wild Target. :D

No I agree with you Sobriquet87! I love the HP trio, and quite frankly, their other films besides HP don't get enough press time (Hello! Daniel in December Boys!). Also I don't understand how they haven't won any major awards for their roles, HP has played such a huge part of the film industry for the last 10 years, yet they don't get anything significant awards.

^I think Deathly Hallows could get an Oscar. The HP films have been nominated for a total of 7 Oscars so far. I think there's a good chance DH could win one.

As for the trio, I think they're all becoming well-respected in different areas of the entertainment industry.

Another underrated actor: Jim Broadbent

joseph gordon-levitt, zooey deschanel, to name a few..
it's so safe to see that just because these actors don't have several baby daddies/go to rehab, you don't hear anything about them, nor do they win any awards
have you seen these 2 in 500 days of summer?
AMAZZING
even i was able to look past their adorableness and realize they are very talented actors as well :)

^ Completely agree about those two. They're both amazing in (500) Days of Summer.

Which reminds me...I don't think this actress is underrated, because she hasn't done too much yet...but Chloe Grace-Moertz will be one to watch in the future. :D
