Why the hell is she on the cover? That sucks that fashion mags now will put someone on the cover whose main claim to fame is a part on a crappy sitcom and an anorexic sister. I usually buy every issue of Bazaar, but I'll be skipping this one.
Ashley Olsen, one half of the Olsen Twins power duo, is breaking out of her sibling shell and going solo — as a fashion icon. In her first magazine cover without sister Mary-Kate, Ashley graces the July issue of Harper's Bazaar (on newsstands June 21). The magazine calls Ashley "Fashion's New 'It' Girl," highlighting the twins' trendy penchant for hobo-style getups that have been described as "dumpster dressing" and "bobo" (bohemian bourgeois).
"I honestly don't know why we started dressing like that," Ashley tells Harper's. "We like wearing big, oversized things and it gets photographed. New York weather allows you to layer a lot.
"If you look at pictures of the two of us walking down the street, you know we're not trying to look like sex symbols," she says to Harper's. "Dressing up is all about fun. My idea of the highest compliment is 'adorable.' "
Christian Dior designer John Galliano says the Olsens have inspired his fall collection. "It's really cool that we can influence someone like that," says Olsen, who with Mary-Kate heads up their own mary-kateandashley fashion brand.
She tells Harper's her favorite fashion designers include Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein. "I don't remember when exactly, but I've always chosen the outfit that was the most expensive. I'm really good at that," Olsen says with a laugh.
Olsen, who is auditioning for new film roles, doesn't discuss personal details in the article, such as her boyfriend Scott Sartiano, 30, co-owner of New York nightclub Butter, or Mary-Kate's battle with an eating disorder.
The twins will be 19 on June 13. They just completed their freshman year at New York University but are going in different directions. Ashley interned with designer Zac Posen. Mary-Kate interned with celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.
"We support each other always," Ashley says to Harper's of Mary-Kate "We've always had differences. It's just that now, for the first time, the public is starting to see it that way."
They are just going to the parties and think, that they are very stylish. Sorry, but they are not... stylists are doing everything! Olsen's are not doing anything, so they have to look good!
