US Elle March 2023 : Gigi Hadid by Mario Sorrenti

Looking at the photographers and stylists in this issue, Elle hand down have the best March issue in the US. Nina is coming for everyone scalps.

That Ezra and Anastasia ed looks amazing.

The most interesting thing about Gigi is Bella and that’s the sad truth

I like Soft Power, shot by Christian McDonald. It's "heavily inspired" by Lindbergh but Rebecca looks great. Ezra's ed is also not bad too.

Received my copy in the mail this morning, finally! Sadly I got the terrible bunny ears cover, but the content is quite strong, given the context of what’s happened to American fashion mags. Feels more like a fashion issue than Vogue’s March issue, that’s for certain. Format is larger for March, which I appreciate, but paper quality inside is terrible! So thin and transparent you can see the text from the opposite side bleeding through in some places. HB remains the best in terms of physical quality.

Everything looks very good...like a proper Fashion Issue....good work...

8 fashion stories-- and 6 are excellent, with 1 passable one of Julia Fox. ...Then there’s the useless story that is JW Anderson’s weakest link.

But what a treat to have 6 solid stories running back to back— and from a mainstream American fashion rag, to boot. Funnily enough, such strong production just calls out how horrid the campaigns are— which is usually the only saving grace of so many Western Vogues nowadays. That insipid Chanel one with Kristen wearing that yellow dishrag look that resembles something made somewhere in a Portland, Oregon alternative HS in beginners sewing class, really stands out so cheap, so amateur, so depressing most amongst the superior fashion stories— and that includes Gigi’s: She looks very good, moon-face and all. She looks more like Cyndi Lauper than Michaela Bercu these days, frankly. And that’s not a bad thing, since it’s always been more about clever angles and a healthy dose of skilled post-production that’s helped her along the way, for some of her stronger shoots. And at least her face is mostly her original… unlike some others.

The fashion content is superb (despite the three lackluster covers) and far superior than what the likes of American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar have given us over recent months. American Elle definitely feels like the leader of the pack - and I'm here for it!

Mariam de Vinzelle by Ezra Petronio looks like it could've slipped inside an issue of Vogue Paris and Rebecca Leigh Longendyke by Christian MacDonald reminds me of Peter Lindbergh's cover story for Vogue Italia October 2016.

A massive thank you, to you @aracic for providing us with the goodies!

Some of those editorials would have been solid content in French Marie Claire from two decades ago, passed over in favour of what the Vogues were producing. But not these days, such is the state of what is being produced right now.

I like the editorials, but I feel I've seen them so many times over the years that I don't need them in my life. Yet I can also appreciate that it's the type of content we don't get these days, we're deprived of decent, basic editorials that know how to make use of a location to craft a scenario and create a mood, and it's good to see it again.
