US Esquire Summer 2022 : Elliot Page by Ruven Afanador

I forgot the name of this Beckham son whose greatest achievement is marriage but hm yeah, looking similar.. same family of nondescript faces/vibe, which is weird cause I saw him in person years before transitioning and Ellen was surprisingly striking..

Surprise surprise, already seeing friends praising this to high heavens on Instagram, so I guess it was a smart move to give him the cover. I don't find the image itself appealing, zero energy. The whole wife-beater and chain look is so banal. Vin Diesel chic. ^ And yeah, now I can't unsee the Brooklyn Beckham similarity, though at least Elliot has talent and an actual project to promote.

I like it! Collier Schorr is probably crying on her pillow right now.
The starkness, lack of fashion, and his harsh skin are something different for men's magazines.

American Esquire is such a mystery for me. Visually the magazine is dull and forgettable but the journalism is solid. On social media they're hyper progressive in general and very up to the minute when it comes to current affairs with good thinkpieces. But their readers don't actually agree with most of the takes yet always crowd the comment section to vent.
Definitely more prominent on social media than they are on newsstands.

All I see is a cover full of sadness, and cliches...
Ruven Afanador is a great photographer, but even he can't elevate this.

It's incredible how just one cover by Esquire wins over the Global GQ Issue with Bad Bunny

I think Elliot’s metamorphosis is very interesting!

I like his body language, but he looks like he came from bed minutes ago. Love the "euphoria" in the title. Sounds powerful.

Got this in the mail.

116 pages.

The only other fashion content fits the apparent fatherhood theme of the issue: various fashion-adjacent dads are photographed with their kids by Bjorn Iooss.

Written content: "Two Fathers," about the Canadian hockey Humboldt bus crash, one guy's escape from an "intentional community," "What Men Can Expect in a Post-Roe World," lots of first-person viewpoints on fatherhood
