US Harper’s Bazaar December 2024/January 2025 : Miley Cyrus by Ethan James Green

Love the first cover only. The color scheme is just perfect for December. It is fashion and the image pulls me in. The second cover does not appeal to me at all. I am so glad James Green photographed Cyrus.

After a strong September and then two very lackluster months, this is a welcome return. Appreciate that she isn't just decked out in Gucci and D&G (actually I think she's a good fit for Sabato-era Gucci, but just appreciate that it doesn't feel like spon-con). When did EJG last work with HB?

Wow this is the worst I've maybe seen EJG shoot?
I was so excited when I saw the title. What a duo, too bad it's a big flop.

this is one of your most beautiful photos. i wish she had kept her mouth closed in general

Those covers of Harper's Bazaar with Anok Yai and Christy Turlington by Ethan James Green were some of my most favourite covers of the year. These, with Miley Cyrus, pale in comparison IMO. The closeup portrait cover is most definitely the standout of the two. The colours are gorgeous. The first cover feels a little... flat.

I LOVE it!! I really do, I am pleasantly surprised.
I do sometimes wonder why her mouth is constantly hanging open. My guess is her veneers are just a wee bit too big and it makes it very uncomfortable
My other theory has to do with Hee Haw, and it's not very nice 😂

Her latest procedures have left her looking so brittle and pained. Pretty depressing, imho.

I  for EJG that he actually had fun and used this gaudy vintage filter. Annie needs less of it; he needs more. I like her face in second to last picture but she's still not ready for her closeup yet apparently.

If she does not want to be predictable, she should then close her mouth for once.

The second cover was more than enough. The first one is tragic.

Meisel got her to close her mouth for Dolce's beauty campaign and she looks so strained... Perhaps it's best to let her natural mouthbreathing pose to take over.

Miley’s one of those people that conceptually, would be a dream to shoot: She seems to be open to play characters and give her all with her body contortions. Unfortunately, she’s also that person who needs to be reigned in, to be strongly directed, otherwise she’s just an even more OTT Anna Cleveland. And that includes telling her to close her mouth (… and the prison tats are so gross. I’d have posed her strategically to hide them since retouching them out would be a tad rude LOL). But like FKA Twiggs, she’s a natural mouthbreather, sadly. This could have been a solid shoot had Miley been directed with a strong photographer; the gold gown alone could have been something to remember. I hugely loath the soft pastel overlay in combination with her mouthbreathing.

The digital copy has managed to makes its way to my local library, it's showing 180 pages, but it's more like 136 pages of magazine content with a massive pages-long jewellery advertorial at the front. Inside front cover ad campaign is Hermès.

This is their annual Art issue. Aside from the cover story, other editorials include SINGULAR BEAUTY, a jewellery editorial shot by Chris Rhodes on a series of models (including men) followed by a feature on artist Barbara Chase-Riboud. ROGUE SPIRIT is a fairly low-energy fashion edit shot by Krisztián Éder, with model Marina Moioli.

The actual print page count is 138 pages. The front and back cover paper stock is new and matte (under Nasr). It instantly reminded me of the paper stock used during Liz Tilberis' tenure as editor-in-chief. I do prefer the matte cover paper stock. The only fashion editorial "Rogue Spirits" is definitely low-energy and just not my style.
