Aside from the First Lady one, which follows a formal recipe, the covers speak of tiredness - a spark that went out some time ago, a desire to hide away under clothing, or to wear something basic that's one step away from giving up. The magazine isn't offering an alternative vision, it's mostly a void.
I can see that US Bazaar is trying to speak to a certain audience , but it acts like everyone older than 25 has reached the stage where all they want from life is minimal make-up and a nice blazer that's three sizes too big.
By the time Harper's & Queen became Harper's Bazaar, Lucy Yeomans had perfected the formula of portraying adult women as being capable, powerful, energetic, accomplished, sensual, sexual, but never vulgar and never, ever drab and boring. It can be done.
