US Harper's Bazaar November 2018 : Julia Roberts by Alexi Lubomirski

I can imagine someone looking at the newsstand, with Claire Foy on the front of US Vogue looking like a damp cloud, seeing this big smile and the fun (if unfashionable) combination of a big pink dress and trainers, and deciding to buy Bazaar instead of Vogue.

Ugh, this.

Those DIOR(?) sneakers look too medicore, something like Puma or Reebok...

enough with the gimmicky cover shoots.. InStyle too! There's nothing wrong with just doing a straight fashion cover shoot once and a while and taking it all a bit more seriously. Think about the beautiful, iconic Liz Tilberis covers... they were sometimes outside of the box and even tongue in cheek but they were always elegant. The newsstand is hardly relevant anymore... why not try and create covers that readers can actually proudly put on their coffee tables? That goes for the embarassing coverlines too... nobody is buying this magazine for 'great hair secrets' so let's just drop it and focus on the image and 2 or 3 simple coverlines that compliment it.

Well I gotta say this is a massive relief from the rumors that Cardi B was going to be on the cover. Its a cover and shoot that works. Not much to say about it.

I´m in in LOVE with this cover and editorial !!!!!!! She looks so freakin´ beautiful and it´s sexy / fierce / fashionable. Of course it´s commercial as hell + of course they repeated the same thing UK Bazaar did in red + yes it also looks very similar to what they did with JLO but I don´t care Julia looks WONDERFUL and soooooo freakin´ elegant; all the pictures could be covers, and when you compare this to the drab BAD covers of US Vogue then I am totally here for that easy-cheasy-american-bazaar type of celebrities shoots.

Those trainers are inexcusable. They have no place on any magazine cover and especially not with that tacky pink horror.

So daring fashion means ball gowns with sneakers? Try again...
Quite mediocre and a bit of a waste of Julia.
Put her in the street in real glamour fashion.

Got this in the mail today. 216 pages.

I feel like I have seen those hot air balloons editorial a thousand times before. It's a no.
Hailey editorial is also a no. Not interested in her as someone's daugther nor as someone's financé definitely nor as a model. Girl. Bye.
I love me some Dame Helen Mirren cracking some nuts but that is very much Tim Walker-lite.

What have this magazine become?

Hailey's shoot is the type of editorial you would have seen in US Elle many years ago... except it would have been styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, it would have used a model capable of playing a rich American (eg Elaine Irwin or Filippa Hamilton), and the entire thing would actually seem desirable, despite the logo overload and deliberate tackiness.

It's such a Bensimon copy to me...without any of his charm or vibrancy.
