US InStyle August 2021 : Deb Haaland by Camila Falquez

These are incredible portraits that do an awesome job of combining Native culture, fashion portraiture, and the gravitas of her new position. Well done Instyle. Vogue, this is what the Kamala Harris should have strived for, not converse sneakers. Only thing cheapening it is the "Badass", "Secretary of the Interior" is badass enough. Laura, saying Badass in every other sentence, doesn't actually make you one. Rule number one.

You said it perfectly, those are stunningly beautiful shots. Much better than what Vogue tried to achieve with Kamala.

Awful. Another politically-motivated magazine cover. Enough!!

I'm so mixed on this one??!
She looks regal! Really beautiful!
I love the portraits, but, I agree; I don't like the mix of politics.
and in the US, nobody will separate the politics from the photo shoot.

love the shots not sure about the mixing of contexts.

I know Fashion is not just frivolity but… it can be! :ninja:

It´s political but also very fashion. I hope that the clothes/accessories are from indigenous designers and not europeans ripping them off...

I think they are, there's an indigenous designer that was on project runway that did something for the cover shot I believe.

Love the cover and editorial very bold and rich colours.

Why do people have trouble with seeing politicians in fashion magazines? As long as it produces beautiful imagery (like in this case), I don’t see the problem.

Politicians have no business being on the cover of fashion magazines. PERIOD.
Trying to turn them into vapid celebrities, only cheapens their day jobs.
Deb Haaland is a history making Cabinet Secretary, and a woman of substance, not a model.
Having said that, the pictures are absolutely stunning, and only ruined by that stupid "badass woman" nonsense.

I agree. Politicians are, in part, celebrities too so it makes perfect sense to me. And I don't see how someone like Haaland would be a polarizing choice.

Gorgeous shots. Perfectly capturing her identity, and making it feel elevated. Great job.

Say what you will but I will always have soft spot for Laura at InStyle. (except when she overuses "Badass") But it's InStyle and these portraits are so well done. That profile image was incredible.

I don't mind politicians on fashion magazines at all. But it has to mean something and be done right. And I think this is awesome.
