US InStyle July 2017 : Nicole Kidman by Will Davidson

I see at least two cover-worthy photos in that editorial rather than the chosen cover.

Very Vogue Australia and also very Victoria Beckham.

Yawn. She looks so frozen and not to welcoming. I don't like it. Actually InStyle has been a miss as of late.
The girls of OITNB are in the issue and they should have gotten the cover instead.

Right.

The first pic of her with her hands under her chin, sitting in the chair. THAT would have been a gorgeous cover.

The fifth pic of her with her arms crossed, smiling. THAT would have been an even more gorgeous cover.

Why on earth did they choose the image that they did?! I guess because either of those would have looked quite dark, instead of the summery background in the cover pic? Doesn't matter! She looks much much better in those pics.

I will say, though, after seeing a more HQ pic of the cover, I absolutely don't think this is an over-photoshopped pic. This is genuinely what Nicole looks like.

Those aren't really that bad...I think she's on the In Style Australia cover as well

Well.. apparently they never touched the cover with Photoshop. Laura Brown currently defending the cover on her Instagram, having replied to a few angry people complaining about the suspect airbrushing!

How can she said that when there are a bunch of editorial shots that don´t look heavily retouched?

It's not Photoshop. She does look like that.......:innocent:

It's not the photoshop. It's her facial expression that ruined this. She's undeniably beautiful and this doesn't do any justice for her.

The overall layout feels like I'm reading US Weekly or People magazine. It doesn't look glamorous or luxurious. Very pedestrian. I can't believe they pay for this cheap of a layout.

^ how depressing to find one of the best (if not the best) stylists doing that kind of job.. ASOS and Victoria Beckham, and for Instyle..

Why so many hair and makeup people for this shoot? It looks like they were shot on the same day anyway.
After all that song and dance, it falls flat, I'm afraid. They could've done so much more with these ladies other than making the whole thing look so corny. Again, that Harper's Bazaar cheapness shines through.

As much as I love Nicole, a cover with Taylor or a group cover would certainly have looked fresher. The cover edit is passable, in a lazy Lubomirski kind of way.

Isn't that usually the case with actresses? Using their own hair & make-up team rather than the ones the magazine commissioned? That's the only explanation I can come up with anyways

The whole jumping edit had great potential to do something interesting but fails. Much like this current season of Orange is the New Black...

Not necessarily, the high profile ones get away with it, yes. Cate Blanchett immediately comes to mind. Also Nicki Minaj (who once refused to be styled by W magazine's team, and that was for a cover!!).

i hate their new fonts. Their new art direction constantly reminds me of tabloids like US Weekly or InTouch
