US InStyle October 2019 : Jennifer Aniston by Michael Thompson

I like the 90s mood of the second cover, however, the fiirst cover looks
like she's having a menstrual cramp but chooses to pose instead because she's being paid for it.

And one more thing. InStyle's content is actually good, and it's baffling to me that they're not putting some of their articles on their cover headlines. I wish they'd go back to their 2016 cover layout when people were ecstatic to see their upcoming covers because of the layout and the cover lines. Today, it seems like they're not even trying to save their publication with their vague "The Badass Women Issue", "The Beauty Issue", "The Fashion Issue" gimmick.

A change of hairstyle?? Is it possible?!

I actually love these a lot, Jen looks gorgeous and healthy as usual. And it all works well for InStyle's brand.

A total of 5 covers this month:

They managed to make one of the most beautiful women alive look sub-par

The first two covers are gorgeous! Wow, what a tan!

I’m not a fan of her but love the second cover. And the others are good too

I feel the same way, but this is Laura, has there ever been an editor who loved a gimmick more than her? And sometimes, i feel, she really pulls it off, this is.....well, it works for them, but i am not floored by any of these covers.

Holy bronze! Let the blackface outrage ensue.

I like the third cover, looks great. But the tan ruins everything. I get that she's the eternal Cali beach babe, but wow. That's awful. Anyway, way too many covers as usual. And tge styling loojs very pedestrian. But I'm guessing Laura tried to make up for not giving Jen the anniversary cover which she deserved.

Odd how everyone is suddenly doing summer covers when it's actually for autumn.

The Deneuve cover is fine and the last too.
The rest is horrible!

Speaking of Thompson, I wondered why the arm pose on the 3rd cover looked so familiar to me. Turns out it's very close his 2003 cover for W, down to the overbronzed face on Aniston:

W Magazine

Fabulous to see Michael Thompson shooting the cover of InStyle, I am loving the look of each and every cover here. For me, the second is all we needed - love the styling on Jennifer, the taupe tones, the monochromatic masthead and fonts. Also very much into the Veruschka cover!

Seeing all these covers by Michael Thompson make me miss his work for W and Allure.

I mean, I am a stan, but to me his W editorials will always be legendary. As is some of his work for Allure. He really should have had Demarchelier's career, let's be honest! I think it would be cool if Edward used him for UK Vogue, as the occasions on which he contributed to Tonchi's car-crash era W were pretty decent overall.

I'm just happy to see him actually working. The second and third covers here are solid and I like the attempt to do something more varied with Jen Aniston, but for me her editorial work and cover have just dipped in quality massively since the Noughties (that was really her era).
