Thank you for sharing this story with us, Yoszillian. :)
I don't understand Dutch so my question is... is Valentijn like a...hermaphrodite? or she always knew that she wanted to be a girl when she was little?
i have to say that she looks absolutely beautiful and happy at the end of that video.

amazing girl. touching story. great documentary. And maybe most important for now, potential to become a great model too.

This is why I love the fashion industry
IT doesn't matter who you are, or what you've done y'know?
Valentijn is a pioneer.

She is really beautiful. Sounds like she's been to hell and back with her condition though.

She will make it big!:D

By the way I think she's with Wilma Wakker.

^Very good sign, obviously! I will be interested, given her track record for success, to see how Wilma Wakker will develop Valentijn. She certainly has the potential.

Touching story right? I was a little hesitant to post it, because I was afraid it would damage her careerprospects or you guys' opinions, but I see it actually made her gain fans  I hope she'll have a great career!

^I can certainly understand the trepidation, and to be completely honest, I feel as if that fear could be very real when it comes to bringing her stateside for representation. Which would be an absolute shame! I'm hoping for all the best as well though.

What an amazing story, I'm supporting Valentijn 100% from now on. But can someone do a translated overview of the documentry like what happened and all over the years. I just want to get a gist of what was happening since I'm effectively monolingual.

I saw it on tv two weeks ago and I'll try to post what I remember:

So Valentijn (a boysname) always felt more like a girl than like a boy and he first stated that after some party when he was 3 or 4. As his parents drove him home he said something like "And I am gonna cut of that penis as well!" The parents were in shock of course, but as the years passed by they understood their son more and more. At a certain point when he was 6 or 7 he wanted to grow his hair long like a girl, but his parents said no, because that would push the limits. After a while they realised they couldn't stop their son's identity so they just let him grow the hair. Then when they went on holiday to Spain when he was 9 they saw the perfect opportunity to 'test' wether he would enjoy dressing like a girl. Valentijn had always expressed that he did, but now they could say wether this was so. So he dressed as a girl for two weeks and all the people he met just thought he was a girl. So after that he dressed as a girl at school as well.

Then when he was 10 he wanted to go to the ballet acadamy to become a ballerina (danseres in Dutch) but the school would only hire him as a male dancer (danser in Dutch). So he joined anyway, but after a year or something he and his parents realised this wasn't good for him, because he was being confronted with the fact that he had to make a choice (to become a girl, or stay a boy). This choise is a very hard one and people always ask him wether he knows yet and it gets annoying. So, then Valentijn went to junior high at 12 (dressing and acting as a girl) but he had change in the boys lockerroom. This caused trouble, because he obviously didn't belong there. So eventually he could change in the handicapped bathroom (!).

Of course, puberty was waiting to happen at this point in life so the choice became more important. If he was to develop sexually as a boy, then the effects would be irreversable. So Valentijn was given puberty stopping medicine (only available in Holland I believe). Meanwhile, his best two best friends were developing into young women and Valentijn naturally stayed behing. At this point the choise became more prevelant because his friends were getting attention from boys and the other way around. But since Valentijn was having his hormones stopped, he didn't experience any of these feeling.

In order to look more like a girl Valentijn one day ordered sillicone boobs at some warehouse. She since wore them everyday. I believe that at 15 he was first given female hormones, since he decided to at least develop physically as a girl. So since then everything started to grow and stuff and she was getting feelings for boys. The documentary ends when she's 17 and she tells us that when she goes out with her friends and the boys try to hook up with her and they start touching her, that there awaits 'le grande surprise' since she still has a thingy. To get a full sexchange you need to be 18 in Holland and at 17 she still isn't sure. She's afraid she might miss a part of her identity when operated, however she realises that she will never be able to function a man in society and she doesn't even want to be. She wants to function as a women. The last footage was shot in the Spring of 2007 or something and after that Valentijn decided not to be filmed anymore for this documentary, since she is afraid of being labeled as the he-girl for the rest of her live and because she had enough of the camera.

I think that at that time, there was no modeling career yet, because otherwise it would at least've been mentioned, right? She is still 17 now, but Wilma Wakker and Viva don't seem to be bothered by the whole situation which I think is just awesome. I'm curious about her future!

Oh wow thank you so much Mr Darling Dale! Karma for you!

Some scenes in the documentry felt abit curious so thanks for clearing things up a little. That's a really touching story. She's a beautiful girl since young and I'm glad she decided to pursue modeling since she has something really special to offer to the industry.

One thing I want to know though, is how did she managed to grow so tall?! Her legs are like a mile long and she's supposedly 181cm but she looks kind of tiny compared to her school mates. I want to grow too!

The Dutch are a tall people :p I'm 197 cm for instance and so not the tallest in my year.

 So. Tall. I'm Chinese and only 164cm. I feel about half your height. :ninja:

To keep myself on topic does anyone think that she is a much prettier and modelesque version of Jordan from AusNTM3?
