Valentino Pre-Fall 2023 Milan

I just can't with that horrible monogram. Some outfits look like it was straight out of the MGC playbook.

The rest of the collection looks like a bunch of different brands edited into one collection by a department store.

I find these 2 to be the best. Despite the feathers and sequins there is still a feel of ease. I also like the red mermaid gown.

It’s a good collection overall. No real direction but solid clothes that makes sense for the brand. Prefall’s expectations aren’t that high so it works…Logos aside!

I’m much more confused by the choice of models. He had to be so edgy that it feels like he is embarrassed by the conservative and pretty nature of the collection.

‘He needs to be ok to embrace Glamour again imo.

Some solid pieces scattered throughout. Bit of a Prada-lite pick and mix though.

I'm just confused with what Pierpaolo wants his Valentino to represent nowadays. Ever since Jacopo Venturini came in the casting has been at odds with the clothes, which is at further odds with the styling and also supposed global intentions. It's trying too much or too hard, but not really doing anything flavour wise in the end.

I searched him up and found out that he was the VP of Merchandising at Gucci before joining Valentino. This pretty much explains why the execution of collections plummeted in quality in the space of 1 year.

His predecessor, Stefano Sassi, had been running Valentino since 2006, spanning the tenures of Garavani, Facchinetti, Chuiri and Piccioli.

He really has lost it. Everything, everywhere all at once. Actually, MCG has better direction than this mess. It's a nice collection but it's repetitive and boring.
