Valentino Resort 2022 Rome

Comparing this collection to any of the resort/cruise collections that were designed by Pierpaolo and Maria Grazia together, you realise how repetitive and basic Pierpaolo by himself really is. And as usual, the hypebeast/cash-grab menswear is appalling and completely at odds with the womenswear which is opulent and glamorous.

I see also that the Guccification of Valentino (under the influence of Jacopo Venturini) is complete. Seriously 50% of this looks like an Alessandro Michele for Gucci collection. Even the aesthetic of the way it's photographed and the casting. Shame.

He’s totally lost the plot.

Side note - anyone know the blonde model with the blunt bob cut? She’s kind of giving me Marta Berzkalna vibes…one of my all time favorites.

I also thought that about Gucci. The handful of rainbow dresses and clothes, with the platforms is VERY Gucci by Alessandro. If I didn’t know they were Valentino, I would’ve thought Gucci.

very chic, very elegant, very safe, but that's just what you need from a Resort collection, isn't it?

Disappointing. I understand that brands need to evolve but I just think of those Valentino ads with Giselle Bundchen and how glamorous and luxurious Valentino was. This really pales in comparison.

The womenswear is glamorous and fine but we've seen most of this before. And at times, the rockstud accessories and logo ridden items ruin the look.

No doubt, Gucci Spring 2016 was def on the moodboard.

Valentino menswear is odd because I don't "mind" it, however it's not what I go to Valentino for. They'll aggressively market the launch of the hype pieces, and they aren't bad but I haven't been moved to buy it. I would rather buy from other brands and go to Valentino for luxury. Not a shoe with a stud on it.

Lots of beautiful looks but also lots of high street looking pieces.

I hate the set! It’s just too much of a clash and way too unrealistic to work as « a reality » in a Parisian environment.

Valentino needs new accessories designers…
The clothes are fine.

Does Valentino need a resort collection when they have very similar looking main collections? And the question is valid for a lot of brands actually. Precollections makes sense when there’s a particular POV or a seasonal print or whatever.

I really think a lot of these houses can work on a « drop » kind of way maybe shift the budget of another collection to produce additional content of « mid season ».

one thing for sure tho, Maria is a better accessories designer. Or at least she has better team. From what I see here and at the store, his accessories suck. The clothes are somewhat uneventful at this point. I would have love something more edited not just a pile of everything.
