Valentino S/S 2023 Paris

There’s not a point of view, to a degree that without the overwhelming logos I wouldn’t even know where this collection came from…and I wouldn’t be interested in finding out. It’s not horrible though, at least he kept it simple, a kind of blessing after the over-styled and vacuous couture show.

Spare thoughts:

The attendants clad head to toe in pink were the very picture of fashion victimhood.

The rat maze runway was awful, I start wondering how bored the poor models are by the end.

If someone tell me Valentino has been acquired by Capri...I´d totally believe it!

Box all the collection again, please! And keep it forever in the storage.

Some pieces were beautiful but overall it felt lacking. It needed to be edited down by at least 20 looks, many of which were redundant to the overall message, which was of a kind of Valentino minimalism?

Also, has he completely given up on menswear? Because nothing in the menswear department here was new or interesting or visually stimulating. It was like a distraction from the womenswear and dragged the entire show down in a way.

There's more LOL.

It's 51's. The right shoe strap is undone.

Also this is kinda weird, but don't the men's socks look those weird mesh orthopaedic socks old people wear?

Those plastic shoes...sweat does not exists for Piccioli!

He completed the triple punch of messes we saw yesterday. But at least out of all three (Balenciaga, Givenchy, Valentino), this one has some mildly interesting propositions. The neutral colors with the undulating dresses could have worked if he were bolder with the silhouette, and the pleated, sequin pieces, despite being jarring in terms of the show's flow, are quite gorgeous (the purple, backless one is particularly exquisite against the black model's skin tone. The second I saw the look, I immediately wanted that being the image of an editorial or the campaign).

However, those sections were ruined by the logomania, the feathery trims, the MGC-reject, black lace dresses, and the extremely basic accessories. Speaking of the aforementioned flow, he also needs to edit more. His shows continue to lose cohesion and focus which makes the redeeming looks get lost in the shuffle of egocentrism.

Yes, it's indeed 51. She had a true nightmare on the catwalk since she lost her right shoe, walked with only one shoe on, and nonetheless fell down stairs! (cf. video below)

There's much more, indeed! I have uploaded on my YouTube channel a video which gathers the different footages of the models who fell down, struggled to walk, lost/removed their shoes...

Wow. So bad ! I wonder what was up with the shoes ?

And as for the runway layout and models going the wrong way as well as having to walk so much in poor shoes, this is another reason why these complicated runways to accommodate everyone is stupid. I doubt they had time to practice or whatever. Keep it simple or rehearse more !

The Resort 2023 collection is so much stronger than this. It's much more expressive and dynamic compared to this show.

That video of the models is so uncomfortable. It’s not even funny…
If you have such a runway first: give them shoes their exact size or half size bigger (we know at shows sometimes they wears smaller than theirs sizes), make them wear shoes they can comfortably wear, make them practice…Or simply hire models you know will rock those shoes.

The cast was lackluster and had so many newcomers. Imagine your first or second season and you have a broken ankle at show without even getting the campaign…

What I don't understand is that for his couture show they made a fuss about how they let the models choose which shoes to wear blablabla yet for this season we had to witness their thin ankles living the worst. Many people complained about how awful it was to witness that, poor models.

He seemingly contradicts on what he tries to promote in terms of supporting models and supporting women. I had a hunch more things like this would have happened after Lauren Hutton at the Fall 2019 couture show. Issues like this have been plaguing his shows for some seasons now because of both poor shoe designs and untrained models. It's uncomfortable, and implies certain ways in which he may view the models deep down.

Wasn't the only show this season though... so many stumbles from ill-conceived designs and weird runway layouts (*ahem* Andreas at Westwood...)

Oh didn’t know that. Which couture show was that ? Just so much talking and not enough action or something to back it up.

I thought it was pretty good.

He cleaned house which he needed to do.

Lots of wonderful clothes to wear.

The menswear on the other hand is pretty awful.
