Jil Sander Navy Diary
She is strong, she is spontaneous, she is sexy. It is her who is the campaign woman of Jil Sander Navy Spring Summer 2011 as she perfectly mirrors the radical femininity and effortless chic synonymous with the collection.
A perfect day starts with...?
Valerija Kelava: ...tickling my boyfriend:-)
What's beauty for you?
VK: I'm trying not to limit myself, where to seek for beauty, but rather be surprised when I find it. Beauty triggers strong emotions, it's always subjective and lost in a moment. What I find beautiful in a certain situation can be vanished in another. Because it's completely irrational, it's impossible to describe it.
What has been your favourite shoot to date?
VK: I feel privileged to be able to do the job that fulfills me so much. It's a very diverse lifestyle with so many interesting people involved, where every new project is a challenge by itself. It's hard to pick up just one experience among so many fantastic memories. There are different factors, that make a shooting memorable... some I remember because of creative energy, inspiring people or amazing results, but some can be just as fabulous because of spectacular location, tasteful catering or sublime music... some of them are all-inclusive: We went to shoot a story for POP magazine with Mark Borthwick and Vanessa Reid to Swaziland. It was the first time for me in Africa, where I spent unforgettable week with amazing team. The shooting was involving native inhabitants, local culture and intact nature, that made incredible impression on our work...Shootings with Paolo Roversi are amazing, definitely my favourites...he is a very special photographer, so relaxed... He always makes you feel beautiful the way you are, with a very calm energy and good sense of humor.
For the JS Navy Campaign you have been shot by David Sims. Is there a question you would like to ask him?
VK: Yes, when we gonna work next time?;-)
What makes you happy?
VK: The prospect of being able to have a lifestyle I have, enjoy in everything that was given to me and to be surrounded with people I love!
What was the last book you read?
VK: Post office. It's a first novel written by Charles Bukowski from 1971.
Your favorite place in your favorite city?
VK: Harry's bar in Venice...always feels like being in a movie.
A person you would like to meet?
VK: Jock Sturges
