Vanity Fair ‘Awards Insider’ February 2023 : Cate Blanchett by Elizaveta Porodina

Porodina needs to learn how to properly shoot a cover photograph, because this is not it. Vallhonrat knew when he needed to tone it down.

Any amateur can see how that nose shadow completely disfigures Cate's face. Why would you do that? Not good.

Jesus... Cate is one of the most beautiful and chic actresses in Hollywood. It's a crime what they did to her!

Does not look like her at all
What a crime

Is this an actual printed issue? This isn’t really suitable for newsstands.

I think this is now just a digital issue they release around this time of year.

Looking on ebay, it seems VF used to produce a print edition "Awards Extra" but there's no record of anyone selling a print version of this Insider one.

I'm an early fan of her work way before she took this direction. And I really liked this rebrand for her because it gave her so much identity and access to top tier editions like Vogue China - you see the work and it instantly conjures up a name. Which other new wave photographer except for the Tylers and Lucianos of the fashion world could claim that, who for the record only got to where they are because they had been backed by decision makers? Very few to none.
It's a pity that this aesthetic has now taken such a U-turn into mediocrity. I liked it when it was good because it was more painterly art than digital art which I don't think anybody with proper taste sensibilities actually likes. I look at the 5th editorial shot and it makes me cringe. Maybe it was too much, too soon? Maybe she should also do occasional work like Sarah Moon but how would she make a name for herself in an era where everything is so fleeting? Impossible situation.

Btw to you shady lot, she's on here and probably reading all your wicked comments as we speak. :P

Oh boy:o

Unfortunately that cover looks like a mummified version of Cate from an Indiana Jones movie. The editorial is a little interesting, I like the vintage element but as a whole it didnt quite hit the mark unfortunately.

The most cover worthy picture of the bunch is the one where she closes her eyes and she’s wearing a transparent veil covering her head. I think.

The cover is ok, but Elizaveta is try to copy the style photography of Hiro & the results are questionable.

This looks verry Man Rayish like The interview december 2008 Issue upload_2023-2-14_19-39-36.png

First Brad and now Cate, if I'm the PR person I would not get her a pass to make my client look miserable.

Do you remember anything shot by Tyler Mitchell? I don't believe that.

Is this the same photographer who made Brad Pitt look like a corpse for GQ, a few months ago?
