Versace S/S 06: Halle Berry
Versace Features Halle Berry in New AdsBy Alessandra Ilari MILAN — At Versace, the stars are out for the third season in a row.Upping the ante on previous Versace centerpieces Madonna and Demi Moore, Donatella Versace chose Oscar-winner Halle Berry to wear her Palm Springs-inspired clothes in sandy earth tones and muted pastels. Photographed by Mario Testino on a magenta backdrop in a Los Angeles studio, Berry exudes sensuality in the ads rather than overt sexiness. "I remember the first time I wore Versace; it was a teal, figure-hugging cocktail dress," Berry said in a statement. "I'll never forget it because I felt instantly in touch with my sensuality."The campaign was photographed during the filming of "X-Men 3," the actress' new thriller, set to be released in May. Berry diligently ploughed through the shots on her only day off the set. The campaign is set to break in international media in February. "Halle worked tirelessly from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. the following morning without batting an eyelid," said Versace. "I've always chosen inspirational women to represent Versace and Halle follows in the steps of Madonna and Demi Moore. She represents everything that is great about this collection — someone who loves color, has a real sensuality and who is strong yet feminine and who is a real woman who has lived. For me, she is easier to relate to and more relevant than a model."Whether she's showcasing skintight jeans, a ruched-front evening gown or the brand's latest bag, The Canyon, Berry sprouts steam and energy in all the pictures. Berry said that, as a fashion enthusiast, clothes are a huge part of her life and business. "I've always respected fashion's power," she said. "Expressing myself through the clothes I wear is one of life's simple pleasures that I really enjoy."
