Vintage!

I adore vintage. Most of my stuff is from the 40s-70s because the only vintage store I know of in Cincinnati carries from only those decades. A friend of mine works there so I get half off! I always end up spending $100+ though. I have a lot of house dresses. However, I really want to get some things tailored because some vintage cuts are too loose around the waist for my liking (esp. in sweaters). They fit me way better than modern clothes, though; stores in America don't sell things made to fit Puerto Rican bodies.

One of my favorite finds: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/icenine05/neha1.jpg The pin is vintage too. That's not me, by the way, that's a friend of mine.

I love charity shopping and being given hand-downs from family/friends.
Real vintage shops are wonderful to look in (a bit like museums) but too pricey for me
I would never wear second-hand knickers, tights or socks.
I buy second-hand shoes so long as they've hardly been worn

Thought I'd revive this thread again.

Got this vintage Kenneth Jay Lane necklace from ebay.

It's a long necklace, 35" long

Found a couple of things at the thrift stores last week that I'm excited about.

The first is a tweedy pleated skirt that goes just past my knees. It's heavy because the fabric for the pleats go all the way up to the waistline (inside the skirt). There's no brand label except one that says it's 100% wool and made in France.

The other is a black dress with an intricate flower design. Translucent panels of fabric are overlaid to make the petals.

I love those fluffy sleaves! Great dress (orange one) for only $17.00!! What a deal.

This some of our recent purchases. My friends and I are coming up with a vintage shop.

I bought 16 dresses for .90US$ cents each. I'm located outside US if you are wondering why it's cheap. :flower:

Ordered this bag, but don't have it in my hands yet. It has very cool Deco metal fittings--I love to buy Deco hardware for my house, first time I've bought it for me. I'm a little worried about fitting all my stuff in it. I said on the editorials thread that I couldn't remember my style being influenced by an editorial, but now I realize that wasn't true ^_^ A one-pager about collectible Lucite bags in Country Living got me interested in them :D Hopefully this is gonna look great with my grey tweed portrait collar 3/4 sleeve jacket for fall.

PS Loved seeing all your stuff on this thread--I think my favorites were AYLI's 40s red knife-pleat dress and someone's mom's black/cream dress. Wow, so perfect for fall's black/white trend, and what a standout! Better than anything I've seen the designers come up with :woot:

Yay, Blackrose! Really nice stuff there & the PRICE!! I like most of the dress u posted (esp. the Jap style one), except the orange & violet dresses.

It's difficult to dress in vintage, but not looking olddy.......Looking for some nice homme vintage stuff......

ROFL! That's amazing! What do you usually wear it with?

I usually wear it with a white tanktop, it really can make a boring outfit look great! :D What do you wear it with?

By the way, sorry if I spoiled the feeling of being the only one owning this necklace.

I have worn it with a green chiffon top, and a purple shirt dress.. Nice to get new inspiration! :-)

This dress is very bright and has scalloped edges and small tiny embroidered flowers on the bodice.

One of my favorite dresses. It's extremely girl. The entire dress is embroidered and INCREDIBLY detailed.

It's layers of chiffon and organdy (I think it's organdy...feels like the same material for drapes...)
