Vitamins / Supplements for Skin, Hair & Nails

MSM and Vitamin C supplement said to do wonders for skin, hair and nails

... I'm experimenting with 1000mg MSM a day (along with 1000mg Vitamin C in order for it to work better. They're synergistic). Just want to see if MSM can live up to its claim; such as stronger and softer hair, healthier nails and glowy blemish-free skin. It seems like every beauty forum I go to, there is always a handful of women raving about this supplement. I'm really hoping for that MSM will 'cure' my brittle hair and nails!

Plus it is being said that Vitamin C taken in higer doses calms the skin and makes scars and blemishes heal faster :woot:

"MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane), is a nutritional ORGANIC form of sulfur. It is a natural occurring vital nutrient, which is lost through the processing of our food. MSM is not a drug, herb or stimulant. It is completely safe, odorless, and non-toxic." Source: Aomega

Basically, MSM gets rid of the toxins and repairs each and every cell of your body.

I use a herbal thing called priorin that I get from Switzerland whenever I am there. It works wonders for me.

I use lots of vitamins every day. Few weeks ago the doctor gave me vit. B injections.
@michyed I also had fragile hair and the vitamin B(12) injections totally helped me out. Are you a vegitarian?

I take Perfectil. I just started like a week ago so I havn't really seen a difference in anything so far.

Biotin sounds really interesting! I'm going to read through this thread later, i'd like to take natural supplements!

my hair is falling out pretty bad, what supplements should i take for this? my hair has gotten extremely thin.

Biotin, silica (horsetail supplements), iron, zinc, vitamin C, B vitamin complex (with at least B2, B3, B6, B9 in it).

Also fish oil and/or evening primrose oil, either liquid if you can stand the taste or soft gel caps. Maybe one with additional vitamins A, E and D.

But it's better to get a blood test and see if you are at all deficient, hair is caused by a number of reasons, hormonal imbalances, infections, diabetes, medications etc. Not wanting to scare you, but it's safer to get tested. :flower:

That said, I find that silica works best for me. I take 400 mg horsetail extract it has ~15 mg silica and after ~6 weeks is notice a lot of new hairs and very few hairs in the drain after shower. And when I stop it I loose a lot of hairs.

thanks, i am going to give silica a try. i've always had really thick hair, but for a year now ive started losing alot of hair and i think its probably bc of my poor diet, so i dont get all the vitamins i need.

Does taking collagen (e.g. marine collagen) really help? I mean, does the body actually metabolise it correctly so it can be produced within skin tissue?

Anyone have any non bias articles about this?

^ I highly doubt it. You're better off taking vitamin c, which actually plays a vital role in collagen production.

anyone taking anti oxidant water booster from dr brandt? any good?

pantogar is really good for healthy hair and nails.

anyone take kelp?

Yes daily. It has trace minerals like iodine which are really beneficial to your thyroid function. The thyroid regulates metabolism, appetite and energy levels.
I like to think its a good start to have those things in proper working order as a foundation for good health :)

I've noticed since I've upped my overall fat consumption (from foods) these past few months my skin is a lot more supple and dewy. Gonna eat my weight in olive oil before this year is over I bet.
