Vogue France June/July 2025 : Gisele Bündchen by Mario Sorrenti

What is it with all the photographers becoming awful? I sometimes wonder if it's the influence of assistants they are currently working with. I just don't understand how you can be one of the best in the industry and suddenly you can't even choose a flattering angle.
Lack of competitiveness.. what are they competing here with? all Vogues have been wiped out in terms of creative input, even Elles look more exciting than all of them. Dutch, W, Pop, Lula, i-D, Grey, Purple.. any publication remotely capable of raising the bar is either gone or has been reduced to nothing, add to that the pressure of watering down their ideas to capture every demographic at once via social media attention or else resort to working for Zara as your main source of income, and suddenly this cover makes more sense..

the couch covered in a sheet?!

is that trying to bring like a zoe ghertner vibe to a beach shoot i dont get it

Admittedly, it's not the strongest Gisele Bundchen cover of French Vogue. The photography from Mario Sorrenti is questionable. I hate the angle, the lank pose, and the hair on Gisele's face, but I do love the setting, the Chloe, and the fact it's Gisele right where she belongs. Massively here for Claire Thomson-Jonville x Vogue France at this rate!

If I didn't know better, since the cover-story was photographed just a month (if that much!) after she gave birth to her third child, I'd think that sleep deprivation, breastfeeding (which, as we all know, she's a huge advocate of), and everything else that goes with a newborn in the house contributed to the editorial looking so washed out and generic.

But, as I already said, that is not the case. The following (paparazzi) photo shows Gisele from the beginning of March this year and she looks flawless to say the least, which means that the responsibility for the mess above goes STRICTLY to the photographer, stylist and the "beauty" team.

I still like it! I agree with all of you for the styling but it’s beach and it’s Gisele! So I don’t care!!!

Once again, I got excited by the thread title too fast. They had Gisele, Mario Sorrenti, the beach, sun, blue shades, this long and beautiful Chloé dress... And they come up with this. It looks really lame and you can see there's close to zero effort here. Also, did they really need a hairdresser for this?! And yeah, what happened to those legendary photographers? What a waste.

Mario Sorrenti can’t produce anything but mediocrity at this point, this is one of the most disappointing Vogue covers. It seems he has a knack for awful angles considering the last Vogue France cover. Imagine having the Gisele and you manage to make her look like a homeless ex addict who has gone through spiritual rebirth.
Not to mention the basic instagram poses when you have the opportunity to do much more. Gosh being on the cover of Vogue France used to mean something…

I am in love with the cover! No complaints at all at the sight of Gisele on the cover. I also love seeing the beautiful summer and beach colors everywhere. I do not love all of the photographs in the story but I love the laid-back summer mood that they evoke.

don’t love it…but I’m trying! At the same time, I wish they gave the 20 page Victoria Ceretti May issue treatment to Gisele this month for this. But why is her face so hidden!! And hiding Gisele’s legs is wild in the summer!

Still infinitely better than the brutally dull SSRI summer issues under Eugenie Trochu. After being stuck with that Gigi Hadid Olympics cover for 2 months on my coffee table last year, this is far from Vogue France’s worst moment. We’ve gotten models most of the year (often at WEIRD angles.. but models nonetheless!)

I can live with this

The issue is already available on Pressreader, and all 3 editorials are original I think. Very summery issue, as it should be.
