Vogue France March 2022 : Laetitia Casta by Carlijn Jacobs

At least they reprinted Fran's gorgeous ed

I actually think it looks good. To be honest, Hugo Comte's series looks really elevated and chique. perhaps because he got rid of that straight Pokemon hairstyle.
I think the story of Carlijn is really special, very pop as usual. Elizaveta looks great too. the only one I am less into is the one of Estelle Hanania, but maybe because the model doesn't look that great.

^I thought it was self referenced to Comte´s work in late 90s/early 00s? it looks familiar related to him.

Just wonder when the “y2k” trend is over what Hugo Comte will have?

Its the "best" issue so far....but still i will not buy it.....

It is weird because these are not bad or cheap editorials... They are not working altogether for an issue and not working at all for Vogue Paris/France.

You need talent as EIC to have different pov and yet making them cohesive for your publication. That's why in a sense, I enjoyed the very narrow minded Vogue by Alt.

Also because the British Vogue ends are clearly something else that belong only to them...i recover yesterday some of Alt's latests issues...and you see a big difference...you see a point of view...

Not even someone with a clear vision will be allowed to flourish at Vogue now, given the current regime of using shared content put together by the teams at American and British Vogue. Those days are gone, and with every passing issue it's becoming more and more evident.

I'm unable to hold Eugénie Trochu responsible for the downfall of Vogue France because she's under the control of Edward Enninful, who is under the control of Anna Wintour. These new 'head of editorial content' roles are essentially just puppets, a cheaper alternative to an editor in chief. I understand something had to be done to cut costs in a swift effort to compensate for their immense financial losses, but these international editions of Vogue have lost their identity as a result. It's painful to witness.

That said, at the very least, with this particular issue of Vogue France, I'm able to love the cover itself and a select few photographs from Laetitia Casta's cover feature so I should count my blessings that it's not a complete write off - yet.

^ I think as an EIC or head of content, you need a point of view. It is absolutely vital. Bad or good pov but at least to have one.

This magazine has none. I don't understand that we had Roversi and Huppert then the Sugababes revival cover and now this very dated feeling cover with Laetitia as Marianne.

At least if you have only one or two original editorials, just nail them.

But now the print is boring, their digital content is atrocious. So what are they doing at St Honoré offices? I wonder.

The cover is striking in real life, but the magazine itself looks pretty sad. I saw it in a kiosk and it just looks like leaflet.

I don't mind if the issue have a lot of few pages but they need to make a better original content...they are lazy editing the reprints....it's the march issue put some effort for god's sake.

this all has such MS powerpoint quality. zero direction indeed.

Maybe the problem is not so much about execution as it is about the concept itself. Goude being the reference we all come up with instantly, one cannot help but wonder where it all went wrong. Why this doesn't look whimsical, but clownish. Jacobs is no genius, but this level of incompetence is unlike her. Maybe she is way in over her head here because of her reference.

Like Pierre et Gilles or LaChapelle, maybe Goude is not translatable to other lenses, at least not with Carlijn's skill set. There are great highly-imitable masters to keep the inspiration alive. Maybe Goude is not among them. And there are great mimetic photographers out there, indispensable to keep the industry going. Maybe Jacobs is just not one of them. Hence this mess.

Meanwhile, that shot of Laetitia's weird-looking butt will continue haunting my dreams, dammit.
