Vogue France November 2024 : Anne Hathaway by Quentin de Briey

I am so put off by the lifeless cover that I've not got much interest in going through the rest of the issue.

My library's digital copy is showing 194 pages, actual page count probably closer to 190. Inside front cover ad is Rolex.

At the front of the issue, Miss Vogue is Miss Moss - this feature with Lila Moss is called that - shot by Pablo Saez, followed by an accessories edit that uses crockery and metal cans.

The actual editorial section opens with the cover story (you could find better in French Elle), followed by the Jacquemus-at-home reprint, the Once Upon A Time In America reprint (the Norman Jean Roy story isn't called that in US Vogue, but every other edition seems to be renaming it as such), the Charlotte Wales reprint from UK Vogue, the Raquel Z pottery reprint, and that's it.

If you've seen any other edition, you've seen most of the contents, and that cover story is on the level of wet kitchen roll.

The monthly reprints and bad art direction have ruined this magazine. It is hard to believe it was once Vogue Paris.

Why there is white line along the spine? Is it that type of fold out when it folds outside and not incide as usual and opens near spine? Eww The worst!

Yes, what it looks like.

The cover looks even worse in that photo lmaoooooo

I don't mind the cover or Anne Hathaway, I grew up in times where you could always go to a newsstand and find a lifestyle magazine with Anne, Reese, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson or Jennifer Aniston on the cover.
Still, I'd zoom in the image a bit more, give the cover subject a stronger presence.

If Vogue Paris can't keep its voice, no other Vogue can.
getting my dose instead from System, Self Service, Mastermind, Bazaar fr and Holiday.

@blueorchid I recently look back at the better but tiresome period of JJB, very similar to this period in the sense of dumbing down to mass approval to improve circulation, and the glorious Carine period right after that, and hope it's just a matter of extreme patience and loyalty.
But Anne Hathaway?

No, I mean quite literally... it's Vogue France! Not Vogue Paris! It's just not the same magazine. I truly don't think we can act like it's the same magazine that it used to be, because it's not.

The next one will change it back.

The pendulum always swings back. A name isn't the end all here. Hedi's out 1 minute and everyone is talking about the return of the accent. I'm more concerned about the actual content.

What content? Reprints from US Vogue? I really don’t think these magazines can come back from Conde Nast tightening the noose. I think we’ll be seeing Vogue Europe before we know it, sadly.

Unfortunately it seems that the shared content strategy kinda worked.. the magazine sales remains the same (even increased a little bit), yet Conde spent way less money creating the magazine. The only one that cares about different editorial in different Vogues is only the magazine collector (which is not a lot). The majority of the reader doesn't care if the editorials are reprinted because they don't buy 4 Vogues each month.

The sad truth is print product is no longer a priority at Conde.. even the CEO said that the print product is no longer the top money making product, digital and video is. So I don't think they will go back to hiring individual EIC for each Vogue in near future.

We'll see. I think a bunch of other french entities will follow Chanel's power move. VP's cultural capital is influential in its own way and impossible to be lumped in with other editions, the average french fashion follower/"reader" is also very different to that of other regions... I frankly don't think a Vogue EU is realistic from a cultural perspective.

From the sounds of the news stories that came out a while back, it seems the grand plan is not only to focus on online content, but to charge a monthly subscription for this online content, with print reduced to a standardised product that limps along like an afterthought.

I mean, they have great form with their online offerings, maybe they've learned a lot since style.com.

If Conde Nast's digital content expanded properly into the entertainment industry, and offered something of substance or lasting value in addition to superficial fluff, I could see that working out in the long term - heritage and innovation combined.

But when you forsake your footing and move completely onto the internet, who's to say that a younger, nimbler, hungrier company won't come along and wipe you off the map, because the playing field is not the same as the one you've been dominating for a century or so?
