Vogue Italia January 2012 : Caroline, Daria & Paula by Steven Meisel

Meisel's inspiration is fantastic, executed to perfection, and I doubt another magazine could have pulled this one. Even the video contributes, once again, done to a high-standard. Natasha's a bonus, I'm ecstatic over the Versace shot, as well as the one with Michelle Harper. Although ultimately, I feel the extras are the ones that make the pictures. Their existence is significant, not overshadowing the models, but being equally as appealing.

 NOTHING looks expensive in this editorial...

Oh yeah... It's flat. The concept is quite witty-- initially. But the flat lighting and straight-on composition just makes the entire shoot look... cheap. It's like seeing designer clothes at an outlet mall: All the glossy, glamorous luxurious wrappings are gone, and all that's there are just-- clothes. This is what this editorial looks like to me. It's a concept that would work better on film as a satire, very Absolutely Fabulous. As a editorial, it just doesn't work at all.

the one where she is walking in the street with those red shoes is my favourite. the whole editorial is great, thanks for posting ammon!

Great editorial by McDean, I love the shot of Querelle in front of the glass doors. A little more macabre than I expected but I think Craig is getting his groove back gradually.

Querelle's ed is absolutely amazing! This appears to be a great January issue, much better than last year's which only had Meisel's ed.

Querelle's ed is fantastic, great job from Craig and Karl.

These are the type of editorials I love seeing in VI!! Thanks for sharing!

amazing editorials this month....every single one is amazing in theyr way...outstanding Vogue Italia, this one is a must-have

I adore the McDean ed. Actually, I seem to find myself liking his eds more than Meisel's a lot of the time. Not that the IVC ed isn't good, but I do feel like satirising home shopping channels is something that could have been done 20 years ago; it doesn't really feel current, even if it's well-executed.

The cover, however, is too busy with all of the overlapping text. It could have been so much better if Meisel had just shrunk or cropped the image to fit the centre of the page, or if he'd even had a picture of a television or something on the cover, with that cover image on the TV screen.

Tim Walker's ed is lovely and Lindsey's a great fit for the concept, but I do still prefer the Mechanical Dolls ed from last October.

Absolutely superb story by McDean. Querelle's face tells so much by showing so little. And although she isn't very expressive here, she doesn't need to be: the setting, mood, her eyes- they all tell a story to me.

The second to last shot where she's in her bra is beautiful.
