Vogue Italia November 2008 : Katrin Thormann & Toni Garrn by Steven Meisel

Blonde On Blonde

Steven Meisel takes readers seaside for Vogue Italia’s November issue with a dramatic cinema inspired editorial featuring two of fashion’s iciest blonde beauties. Toni Garrn and Katrin Thormann are elegant as ever in furs and knit sweaters but it’s the electric interaction between the two regal fashion fixtures that makes the editorial special.

I absolutely ADORE this. And it's been quite a while since I said this about Vogue Italia.

i love the ed, it's clever and it tells a story we all can relate to, i guess. you would think it's Vogue Germany though...with all those blonde teutons on it.
of course, it would have never looked that good on V Deutsch. their covers suck. can't wait to see whats inside.

I love this cover! For most of this year the VI covers have been lacking, they look like they could come from any magazine, but this cover is unmistakably Vogue Italia.

It's so natural and beautiful...no overcontrived post-production (Save for a signature desaturation). It's truly been a while since there was so much purity and freedom conveyed through a main ed!

Almost an antithesis of the scrapped sex-themed story...

Wow, the ed itself is very simple in its execution but there is something about it that makes me go woohoo! And I love the cover. Toni and Katrin are both undeniably beautiful girls and Meisel brought that to our attention very clearly IMO.

PS: Is it any coincidence that last year's November cover also featured two girls laying next to each other....one upright and the other laying down. That was a fold-out....any chance this being one as well? Those were two brunettes though :p

i love love love it! and this whole ed reminds me of a british tv show called Daphne. its based on the life of Daphne du Maurier. one the scenes was where 2 ladies go off on a secret holiday and have fun while one of them have doubts about their relationship because it's not accepted during their time.
then in the end she backs out and leaves.

i might be wrong but im just saying! dun shoot me!! :ninja:

^Now that you mention it, I see hints of Entre Nous with Isabelle Huppert and Miou-Miou! That film also ended at the beach, and the tumultuous relationship between the two lead females is very reminiscent of some of the scenes in the editorial.

It's an OK story. There are a couple of great shots of Katrin. Toni Garn doesn't bring anything to the editorial - it's like they wanted a bland character to contrast with Katrin's spookiness.

The cover doesn't do anything for me. The top right corner is too busy and ruins what could have been a strong geometric look.

IS SO NEED THIS ISSUE !!! Can hardly believe it tbh  :crush:  Toni was expected in a way, not so early tho but you could see this coming, but Katrin ? I love her, but no idea where she came from  And then both together ? A dream come to, it actually makes me quite patriotic, for the first time in my life I think   SO HAPPY :claps:

....BUT: I agree with you Marcel, dont really cotton on to naked/smoking Toni, I mean she might not look like it but shes still 17, meaning underage. I know this is art and not pornographie and Id be the last person to say smth different but its just...no, not for me !

 I love the ed, and the cover thanks for posting

I especially like the editorial, the cover looks good but the editorial seems the best of Toni so far, playing a different character from what she's already been used to  I'm quite impatient to see what else will be in the mag though...

nice..sunny cover:blush::heart:
i need this for my weird cold weather:angry:

thank God though the last ed didn't become the cover..or..i'll be gone and burn my grandma lace!
