Vogue Italia September 1997 : Kirsten Owen by Steven Meisel

Anyone have scans from this number?Old links do not work now.

Impressive that they put her on a September issue... Never could tolerate Kirsten's look. And her runway walk, which was nothing more than the annoyed stomp of a petulant 10yo being sent to bed without dessert, was just aggravating to watch next to a phalanx of Supers.

But this shoot by Meisel… It’s as if he’s able to comfortably worm his way into her head like the fabled bodysnatchers— but instead of melting away her personality and life, he’s giving her personality and life. Every single shot is as vividly alive, and full of fashion energy, individuality, 20some years later… The compositions, the lighting, the flow, the consistent tone… I weep when I look at this brand of effortless but skilled high fashion-making in comparison to the flat, banal mediocrity that has infested high fashion photography in 2018. It has absolutely nothing to do with nostalgia. It has everything to dow with talent and vision. And high fashion, along with its presentation in 2018, is the equivalent of someone who has given up on their dreams these days.

Thanks ivano

Ha! I thought I was the only one who never cared for Kirsten Owen. But you've summed it up perfectly, no surprise!

But, in true Meisel style, he draws out the absolute best of absolutely everyone who poses for him. It's a skill almost no other photographer possesses in the quite the same way.
