Vogue Korea January 2021 : Soo Joo Park by Sebastian Kim

Is this going to be the vOgUe vAlUe of January 2021, putting as little effort as possible into the cover?

It was supposed to be epic. Two of the most famous Koreans in fashion who pretty much remained in demand for over a decade. And this is what we get. Soo Joo is to Korea what Liu Wen is to China. Despite all their models, photographers and supposedly popular celebrities with vast reach this magazine remains mediocre.
You'd think these Asian Vogues would pull up their socks when they see Vogue China thrive month after month, but no.

I love Soo Joo as a Korean supermodel, she ALWAYS rocks it in every job she gets: runways, ad campaigns, lookbooks, magazines and so on; having said all of this though, I feel here that they totally misused her and they could have put way more efforts into doing this covershoot. I'm waiting to see the whole editorial but it's not a bad shot, it's just not giving much. I'm afraid many covers in 2021 will be this way... Using Covid as an excuse is something very trendy anyhow.

At this point, Vogue Taiwan might be the only one that could carry the torch but their offerings are still pretty uneven in terms of quality. Binx’s cover a few months ago was the last exciting output from Vogue Korea.

Soo Joo’s face is captivating here. But the styling is nonexistent and the photography is downright mediocre.

Definitely getting a “glass half empty” feeling from this one

Was excited by the title, disappointed by the results. It's very true, Vogue Korea is constantly disappointing. I much prefer W Korea.

Basic AF !!!

If they want to do artsy cover they should hire Chogiseok ..

a glass of water, seriously?

remove the accessory and we would’ve had a simple but effective cover. maybe a stunning one. but no.

It's so great to see Soo Joo again and she looks good. It's plain but the minimal aesthetic seems really fitting for the first cover of the year.

Looks like a stock photo but I love it, she's a good model so she delivered even the water looks nice against the neutral palette. Only thing I hate are the words running across her neck

I’m here for Soo Joo’s comeback. I don’t mind the image but as people have said, take it to i-D
