Vogue México & Latin America February 2019 : Lineisy Montero & Eiza González

The best image of Lineisy I've ever seen. Just lovely, and I dig the greenhouse/green thumb atmosphere.

Stas Komarovski used to be an assistant to Michael Thompson (or Craig McDean?). Well, someone who used to shoot a lot at W.

Actually, Joan, Yssauny Brito and Lineisy are the only afro-latina models that had been in the cover... and all of them in the last 4 years.

I believe Luisiana Gonzalez also had a cover, another Afro-Latina. But yes, I meant that Joan was the first Afro-Latina and, other than Mariana Zaragoza (who is white), I can't think of other Latina models in the last few years. And definitely none of indigenous descent.

I remember Cora Emmanuel (french model, but she was the face of the cuban issue), Dilone and Luisana Gonzaléz. Half of the latin covers, in 2017, was with black models. Adwoa and Yasmin comes to my mind too. VLatam/Mx is more diverse than any other edition of Vogue at this point.

No, Vogue US is still the most diverse magazine by far, especially if you look into the pages.

I remember Cora Emmanuel on the Cuban issue; it made absolutely no sense to me why they didn't simply use an actual Cuban model. This magazine has made a lot of missteps in the last 15 years (since I've paid attention.) But things look like they may be improving.

I forget US Vogue, maybe because i'm not into celebs, but that's right! I said it on the French Vogue covers archive thread. :hardhead: I liked that ed with Cora, the male models and the people were cubans, but yeah, they should have pick a cuban girl. I still have that issue, is the first one of my collection.

The latam edition includes an editorial about unisex clothes starring Olso Grace and other model, one of Marc Jacobs, Eiza's interview, and another one that I can't remember.

Also includes -again- pictures of Martin Parr's editorial for Vogue Brasil.

It's a shame about the art direction really, because imo everything else is flawless. Not groundbreaking, but consistent and one can sense much care goes into the conception of each story. The art direction actually ruin most of the imagery. The Marc Jacobs story, for instance, is just about raising the stakes for stylists to reinterpret this collection. The model Lorna Foran is perfect for it, and it's just such a light palate cleanser after last season's Carmen Sandiego look with large-rimmed hat and exaggerated coat shot which almost everyone shot in sinister shadows. I like each and every shot except the one with the male models, which doesn't really bear much relevance.
I want to like the Carlijn Jacobs edit as well, but after VP's special issue reserved for androgynous dressing, and one in Vogue China as well, it's slowly becoming a bandwagon. Plus, I feel like the pictures could be laid out in a much better way than above. There's just no flow.

Vogue Mexico will probably have added more pics or even a edit, but as it is, I reckon in terms of edits, the Latin American edition is actually stronger than most others out there. And that is without a star photographer team.

Mexican edition doesn't include the beauty editorial and includes a reprint from Nick Knight Hollywood Portfolio (4 pages), only 8 pages of Lineisy's one, 6 of Marc and an article about Bill Cunningham (8 unnecessary pages)

I've noticed that! The Mexican edition actually looks....budget with the shorter edits. The Latin American edition is definitely worth the buy in this case.

Btw, all the February Vogues are doing that Cunningham special. I quite like them. What's cool is that they're all using different images, not identical ones. I quite enjoy it and if there's a coffee table book to be released, I'll raze the earth to get it. The photo special include vintage shots of Anna (loads of her, actually), Meisel, Jackie O, Diana Vreeland etc. No sign of Grace Mirabella, incidentally.

Actually I like it, but to be honest, 4 or 6 pages were enough. Makes me sad that Lineisy's ed is shorter and they didn't put the better pictures -like the one they choose for the cover-. I'm not a big fan of her, but the editorial is exquisite in all the possible ways. :(
