Terrible cover select aside, its accompanying story is solid. At their best, Netherlands excels at that brand of Bruce Webber relaxed elegance of beautiful people in formalwear casually lounging around gorgeous homes and locations, with the sun and surf behind them. And this is that issue. And beautiful art direction to boot.
The coverstory is solid with better shots— until her family and children show up. Why they’ve gone with that awkward select that resembles her mistaking a garden pillar for an urinal must be an inside joke. The other 3 original fashion stories (no reprints) are gorgeous, in particular “New Life” and “From Roots We Grow”: With the latter shot in Ghana, and with a model that resembles a very young Veronica Webb being the standout of an already standout issue.
Don’t let the cover select fool you.
