Vogue Russia January 2011 : Alina Kabaeva

This feels like VR circa 2002...

And are those beauty pics with Patricia and Ylonka rejected cover tries for their rumoured cover?

She looks like a WAG. Is she very famous in Russia?

Kabayeva is Russia's most successful rhythmic gymnast to date, and is also one of the most decorated gymnasts in the history of rhythmic gymnastics with two Olympic medals, 18 world championship medals and 25 European championship medals.

Yes, she is. And not only because of gymnastic or her political career. :innocent: :innocent:

See here & here.

Though, I repeat, it's just my opinion.
Thanks. OK it makes sense now, Alina Kabaeva is Putin's reputed girlfriend and perhaps even his fiance, so my WAG observation was not that off base. It's not a good fashion model cover but it is a decent celebrity cover, still it is not "Vogue worthy," more Cosmo / Glamour / Marie Claire / InStyle, although bear in mind that Cosmo and Glamour's circulation exceeds Vogue in many countries. If they are just putting her on the cover because she is the WAG of the moment, that is not a good move and yeah, that amounts to Tatler-izing VR, but if they are investing in a relationship with someone who they think is the next First Lady of Russia, then that may be a kinda smart move.

Hahah well now it makes more sense as to why she scored the cover, but my god couldnt they make her at least look fashionable? Seriously! At least try, and make her modern, instead of a huge ugly hair, and tons of make-up! I wont even mention that she is in HL!

Vogue or Tatler? Victoria's approach isn't coming close to Aliona's, it's rather shameful. This is appalling for Vogue Russia.
I never thought the time would come when I'd regret buying Vogue Russia, but I do. I only purchase in hope it becomes better.

wooow, quite bad!
happy to see marta; she's shining!

The cover just isn't great at all, I completely get the festive new years feel but I'm so over that Balmain dress.
and...so Alina is marrying the prime minister? whoa, pretty interesting.

BUT I think the eds look good so far, I love the one with Iris. Something about that gaudy, over the top makeup and hair does something for me.

The only story I really enjoy is Caroline's and even then I would say that it would be a stronger shoot overall minus 2 or so images that drag the feel down just a bit. I think that the creative direction of the magazine is really lacking lately. For me Vogue Russia under Aliona was one of the top tier Vogues, there were hits and misses, but it could always be counted on for unique content with a distinctive point of view. A lot of this current issue seems either passe or just tacky. I don't know anything about the cover subject, so I cannot speak about her personality, but I do think that she could have been styled and shot in a way that was more fashionable. I think at this point in time the whole gold Balmainia has been done to death and isn't interesting anymore. The inside shots are equally dull - if you're going to showcase someone new (or new for Vogue) you have to show a side of them that is visually appealing.

As much as I adore Francois Nars, the Iris editorial also falls into the realm of tacky for me, everything is so over the top and excessive that you can't enjoy the individual parts of the story.

Nobody knows for sure. :ninja:

Few years ago, the newspaper that had published A + P news was closed immediately. :brows:

Could this cover be even more horrible? I'm really amazed how this could be chosen as a Vogue cover.

Nice to see Caroline in VR though.

What's the translation from Russian to English of the title of Iris's editorial?

Thanks in advance.
