Eric Zemmour - Le suicide francais (French suicide)
~ Zemmour is a very famous French polemist, and politics journalist. He is either hated or loved. He is said to be the French mass media voice for the Front National (French extreme-right-wing). He works for various media, including radio, newspaper and television (so yes, he is everywhere).
His last book, the one I am current reading, is the most-talked-about book these days in France, because of Zemmour's view of France since 1968 (a view which goes with the trend of French Bashing).
The only things I have to say right now are :
- an incredible amount of "..."/quotes - most of the times without sources, and/or just for the random use of the "..." - like it's not really the word/expression I want to use, but you get the idea... (therefore, something not very academics ruled, nor very intellectual... but I guess he shouldn't lost the most random reader with a too academic way of writing)
- a surprisingly misunderstanding of French Theory (and especially Deleuze, Guattari, Baudrillard, or Derrida) !
- a lack of "in situ reality" (as if he was writing from his home office, without never step into the hoods he talks about, and contempts ...).
- a huge misknowledge of contemporary art, and its recent history.
But I cannot say he doesn't know his main passion and subject of work: politics and history !
What I'm surprised of is that this book is someone's view on today's French society and life, and for the moment all I've read could be counter-said (with different sources, personal history etc.) ... But yet, this book's sold over 300,000 times ! in less than a trimester !
crazy !
