I'm reading "Elegance" by Kathleen Tessaro at the moment. As far as I've read it, it's really interesting and nice to read.

The Human Stain by Philip Roth

is it good? i was thinking of getting this one -Lena

Lena-I think it's written beautifully, but somehow I had an amazing seat mate on the flight back to NY... and so it's on hold for now until I travel again...

So I don't know if somehow my attention wandered due to the book or I was fated to have a great conversation on the plane. From reading it 3/4 though, I loved the craft and the social references of the book. I just have to finish it to give a final answer!

Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk

Really enjoying it, but I like Chuck's style.

*currently reading Granta, my fave 'literature' magazine from UK.
issue in question is titled 'over there' how america sees the world..

absolutely interesting read ,expect 'small' entries by different authors including Paul Throux & a new short story by Julian Barnes
highly recommented to all the more 'serious' readers out there

Lena, I'm a huge Auster fan too. "Oracle Night" is next on my list. ;) They're all extremely well done and multilayered, but I think my favorite is still "New York Trilogy," which blew me away. I also love his essays.

And Granta!!! Yes, it is always so good!

As for Theroux and Barnes--have you read "Sir Vidia's Shadow" and "A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters"? Both fun reads.

Right now? I'm trying SO hard just to stick to assigned reading since AP tests are approaching, but it's sooooo hard. :( I love to read/study Art History (second edition) by Marilyn Stockstad (1200 pages to study! yipes!), but I reeeeally want to read a novel.

If anyone needs recommendations, though... :D Bee Season and Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women are both fantabulous. I don't know why those two came to mind, because I read them a while ago  , but...they're great. Oooh, also: Brave Hearts, Rebel Spirits. Can't think of any of those authors right now. Oh, well. :innocent:

PS- The second one is non-fiction, but it's terribly fascinating and it reads like a novel. I couldn't put it down.

I've got that one as well, actually. It's hugely heavy, not to mention expensive!

I just finished Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, which I loved, and then I had to read Angels and Demons... I recommend them both. Now, I've moved onto Prime Obsession, but I doubt people will bother to read it unless they're really into math. :P

They're making Bee Season into a movie at this very moment :flower:
