What Are You Reading?

i am about to start reading Underworld by Don Delillo (again). i love most of the other books of his that i have read, but i cant seem to ever get into this one. should i persevere?
Yes, stick with it. I know what you mean though; I seem to remember having to put it down for a bit before finishing it. But it's worth it, imo it's the last really good thing he's written.

Ooooh, I just got exposed to Don DeLillo last semester - he is my new top fave. I can't wait to read it all...

thanks droogist for the advice- i'll stick with it. and i know what you mean; i quite liked the body artist, but i didn't understand cosmopolis.

it is so exciting to discover a new writer- then you get to work through the whole back catalogue. I hate it when you only have one or two books left to get to by an author you love- especially when they are are not around to write any more! white noise is probably my favourite of his so far.

I'll mark that one. I've only read Mao II so far.

you bet. I''ve read everything he's written, including non-fiction. i don't like his late novels as much - it seems he's run out of steam. but there is still glimpse of his genious here and there.
this is a bit random but something's been puzzling me for ages, how long does it take you to read a book of say, 500 pages?. just wondering cause it takes me a couple weeks..more or less, depending on how complicated it is, but you seem to be reading a new book almost everyday  .

goethe- e. ludwig. (second try  )

i've been rereading favorite childhood novels lately:
the twits
james and the giant peach
the witches
all by roald dahl
& the little princess by frances hodgson burnett

Well, not every day! I do read fast, though. 500 page book - probably two weeks, but it really depends on how complecated it is. Also depends on how much spare time I have - which these days is not that much. In grad school we are expected to read a 300 page literary novel per week per subject . It can become overwhelming. The thing that saves me is that I LIVE for it ^_^.

I am re-reading Burger's Daughter by Nadine Gordimer.

I just finished Wasted by Marya Hornbacher and am now starting up on The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath....also reading Lolita as well

the mother tongue by bill bryson, but i really want to steal my friend's book on the ancient art of tantra. i forget the exact title.

wow. i bet most students end up using glasses!.
i think it'd be really cool to study literature..professionally, and having to read books as homework..and hopefully getting paid for it :shifty: .
i'm really interested in ancient history. I might get into that next year as a backup career..

oh well, back on topic, i was trying that goethe biography thing, you've probably read this, faust but it seems to me like an anti-insomia pill, i could only read one page before falling asleep  . so out of nowhere, Ignorance by Kundera dropped by my house and that's what im currently reading. :p
