What is the best length for wearing boots with a skirt / dress ?

What is the correct boots to wear with a skirt/dress that stops at the knee or calf?

In my opinion either a long skirt - calf length or short skirt- mid thigh

Either have no gap at all or a large one.

A small gap between boots and skirts can make you frumpy looking

Help! I've been wearing these kind of skirts troughout the whole summer



Now, I want to keep wearing it during winter with stockings under them, but I have no clue what kind of shoes should I wear with it. I used to wear sandals, and I don't like ankle boots, any suggestions? Thanks
