What was the first 'expensive' luxury makeup product you bought that made you stop buying cheap makeup?

For me, it was MAC Lipglass. I never looked back! :flower:

I have never gave up drugstore makeup, because I believe everything in cosmetics are hit or miss, both high end and low end indeed.

My first high end purchase was clinique superfit foundation, next one is MAC blot powder and prrr lipglass.

My first luxury makeup was a Calvin Klein foundation and lipgloss when I had my makeup done for my high school prom.

I saw the difference immediately and swore I'd never go back. That was when I was about 16. These days my makeup bag contains only the best - MAC, YSL and Chanel.

The first time I tried Helena Rubinstein Vertiginous Mascara (waterproof).

The fact that you can try things before buying them!!
I could never just pick up an eyeshadow off the shelf and buy it again- I need to make sure I like it first.

I'll never give up on drugstore products either...I started playing with dept.store makeup early on due to my mom's gift w/ purchase items (clinique eyeshadow)..but never shelled out to buy my own dept.store makeup (since I barely wore it in high school).

I'm starting to buy higher end items now due to what brokenenglish said...TRY BEFORE YOU BUY..especially for concealer/foundation. I'm also attracted to those lovely GWP's which convicne me that it's a good deal to pay a little more to get more back which is why the first thing I BOUGHT was a Biotherm concealer (cos i could try it+ not expensive + gift w/ purchase)

Prescriptives foundation. I had a good drugstore foundation that was a great color match, but the brand went out of business so I needed to try department store brands to get a match (I'm super pale, so it's very hard to find a shade match for me). I've been buying Prescriptives foundation ever since.

Either a Helena Rubinsteln Nail Polish (gorgeous LE turquoise) or a white Givenchy lipstick, can't remember properly...

The first thing I bought was MAC lipglass in Prrr. That doesn't include stuff I "borrowed" from Mommy's drawer. I remember I was in 8th grade and in Chicago for School of Amercian Ballet (SAB ) auditions.... I also bought CLinique Happy. How 8th grade of me?^_^

I am now a make up wh*re and I try everything. I am not loyal to one brand. I am a regular at Sephora, always playing. My favorites include NARS, benefit, YSL, Bobbi Brown, MAC, Urban Decay for funky and lots of pigment and glitter, Anna Sui, and Body and Soul powders. I do love drugstore make up also. My favorites for those right now for those are the new Revlon products (lip sugar, powder eyeliner, liquid eyeshadow, etc.) and the new Rimmel Underground stuff. Such fun colors!

the first time I used Dior Eyeshadow. It just blew my MAC shadows out of the water in terms of smoothness of application and staying power

Lancome foundation after getting a sample and found it really suited my skin. Everything else in my make-up bag has prices that range from the sublime to the ridiculous!

this is totally cliched but it was juicy tubes by Lancome that made me more interested in buying luxury make up. The tubes last far longer than cheaper ones, taste good, are nice and sticky and ultra shiny. I now buy things from Benefit (eyeliner, concealer...) but I still also buy rimmel, no7 and Bourjois (love Bourjois!)

Lancome cream rouge. Its just amazing but I have yet to give up the cheap makeup for good.

It was the super powder from clinique.I'm using it 6 wears now and I'll never gonna change it. I think it's the quality, once you try luxury products, you never go back.

probably going through my mother's necessaire when I was little..
I love Chanel powder & mascara, they suit me very well, plus the packaging is nice which is a plus..
