my ipod is 3 years old!

I have this one, itunes didn't even exist! (well it did but the cd of the ipod used another program to pass the songs)
I love it I don't like the others that's why I don't want to buy a new one, but I have to keep deleting songs
my ipod doesn't have the new functions like "most played songs" etc etc

many artists and constantly changing

I still have my black 60gig, but it crashed in early July. I have everything backed up, so it wasn't a major issue, but it has a slightly different selection on it now. It's punkier/darker. 8510 tracks. There are about 5gigs free. I figure I shouldn't stuff it with things I'm not in the mood for.

I'm thinking about getting the 5th generation 30gb for Christmas so that I can watch video and music on it but I'm not sure if I should wait for the 6th generation to come out. Does anyone else have the music/video one? Do you like it?

I usually only use it 3 times a day, and that is to wake me up (Paris/ Amanda) and to make me happy on my 30 minute bus ride home (Dresden Dolls) and to put me to sleep (Joss Stone's Soul Sessions. Its so soothing.)

I'd go ahead and get one for Christmas. I don't think the new generation will be out until late next year (Sept or Oct seems typical) and even if you decide to upgrade, you'll get a lot of use out of it in the meantime. I was amazed by how quickly I felt completely dependant on having my iPod. The one you're looking at is $50 cheaper than last year's comparable model and supposedly has a bigger and brighter screen/longer lasting battery, so it's a win/win situation. I've had mine (60gig 5th generation) for about a year and except for one incident over the summer, it's still working as well as the day I got it.

I've never actually used the video function (because I'm always either at a computer where I could watch the videos on a larger screen or using it in some situation where staring at the screen is impractical), but I can't imagine next year's model will be such an improvement that ours will seem obsolete. Even if they surprise us, since you're getting the smaller one this year, there's no reason why you can't try to get the full capacity 6th generation down the road. I know a lot of people who keep their older models for running and errands and such. All of the 5th generation video models play the games too. Again, I've never tried them out, but it's a nice option.
