Who here is a graphic designer?

How much do good graphic designers make after a few years in NYC for a big designer?

graphic designer...:)

I look forward to seeing your work too, mirrra!!:flower:

I didn't take any graphic design program at school, but I do get to do things that a graphic designer gets to do, like design graphics for teapots and textiles and so on. And I also make illustrations for books!
So I guess I could be a graphic designer too:rolleyes:

question for all the graphic designers who works: how do I have to see my job later? In Belgium we don't have a specific department of graphic design, so I'm going to do commercial communication and in the last year I can choose courses and graphic design is one of them. thanks a lot:flower:

does anyone in graphic design feel like they want to do more? i am only halfway done my bdes but i'm already planning on getting an after-degree in english to go into publication and book design/editing ;)

Well I've been a designer professionally for 10 years and yes I feel it's time to do something different. There was a time when doing design was very fulfilling as many creative jobs can be, but after this length of time and the realisation that the most clients don't fully appreciate or understand creativity, I feel less fulfilled by it every day. I rarely get excited by projects and the longer I design the more I see how uncreative the vast majority of people are, but worse still - the same people THINK they are VERY creative and therefore carry such arrogance that they feel compelled to tell you how to do your job. Unfortunate but true.

i'm also a graphic designer i'm an amateur and i'm doing some vexels at the moment.

they're looking for graphic designers at YOOX if anyone is interested. theyhave fantastic internships and it's a nice way to get your foot in the door, especially if you're interested in the fashion industry. check out the job section at yoox.com

i'm one also.
i do in house design for my local health systems. lots of ads, billboards, newsletters, posters, logos.

I started taking Painting as a second career about a year after I started studying Graphic Design. So yeah, now that I've been done with GD for a while, and concentrating on Painting, I can say that I wanted more. Because working as a graphic designer can't always be as fulfilling, creatively speaking, as painting. I mean...we don't always work for that dream client, now, do we? But for what I do, I mix both fields for my personal work and am quite content with it at the moment.

I'm a photo editor too. I'm a graphic design student as well but I have no idea what to do once I get my degree. I feel kinda lost. Like my heart isn't really in it but I've devoted so much time into it that I'm stuck. I really love fashion...it was even my first major but I changed it because I felt I wouldn't be able to find a job. Now I still feel like I won't be able to find a job. :(

hi,
i really hope someone can help me out by clearing this confusion i've had for so long. i've researched this for ages and still can't figure out :

what is the difference between advertising versus graphic design course? like the jobs you can get after?

like do advertisers also design logos and brochures?

does advertisers and graphic designers have an opportunity in fashion? and in what ways?

also, how about in the production of fashion editorials?

thankyou.

fashionlives...
a graphic designer usually designs printed materials...
logos, brochures, leaflets/direct mail, etc...
they CAN design ads, but that's usually not their expertise...

advertising is more geared towards having a person purchase something or do something (call a number, etc.)...
there is more research, media placement, that goes along with advertising...
advertising art directors can also design printed materials, but it depends on the agency...
some only do traditional advertising...

graphic design courses typically teach you about typography, strategies behind designing identities, production (mocking up, etc.), packaging...

advertising courses you learn about strategy behind campaigns, working with a copywriter, where to place your ad, measuring/tracking ad results, etc.

both can have opportunities in fashion, but it's a difficult niche to get into...
many people i know have interned at magazines or agencies that specifically do fashion advertising...
you can also do freelance work for local designers/retailers to get more experience and projects in your portfolio...

fashion editorials in magazines are put together by the creative teams at a magazine...
they aren't done at ad agencies...

hope this helps...and if you have any more questions, just ask! :flower:

i've gotten more into photography and publication design...
i've also been interesting in creating my own retail experience...
designing home accessories, t-shirts, etc.
with graphic-y patterns...

blarg i have a couple new things up at my deviant art: the heartfelt

i still have not done Anything art related all summer. i feel like i'm not motivated but I also just like other things. I'm into English and alot of science right now. I think it would be cool to do the graphics for scientific textbooks but that is probably like three people's jobs in the whole world. hahaha. maybe i'll be an part time english professor who does print graphics the rest of the time, and screen prints as a hobby. ahhhh
