You're right, "nice" is a bit of a bland word but when I started adding more adjectives it became too long haha. What I mean is kind, thoughtful, caring, honest, genuine people - not cruel, power-crazed, dictatorial, bitchy, rude, racist, sexist etc.
All the people I mentioned for example are people I know from people around me or worked with directly or indirectly at some point. For me, it’s not even about caring and things like that because when you have that much pressure, it’s sometimes very hard to ask too much to people.
It’s really about polite, thoughtful, with a sense of reality (in line for example remember that you have a women in your staff who may not have the same lifestyle as you so outside of the time before the runway shows or presentations, be more in tune with their work balance) and just well mannered. On top of that, give the same level of respect to the housekeeper, the intern that you would give to Anna Wintour.
I don’t even want to mention assistants because designers always have a more personal relationship with those.
I’d be afraid to work with Tom, Phoebe and Miuccia somehow. They seem so so perfectonist that in a way I feel they could be very passive aggressive. I love them though and it’s just a pure impression.
I know someone that works directly with Phoebe and she says she’s super nice, but in GD you have the worst comments
Phoebe is very tough to work with (like her friend Stefano) from what I have heard but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she isn’t nice to be around…
That’s the tricky thing. Some people are very demanding and it could be very hard for people to deal with.
Tom is great. Demanding, professional, well mannered. The trick about him is that he gives a lot of confidence and trust to his number 2. And sometimes, his number 2 are less pleasant than him…
That was during his Gucci/YSL days.
But as far as I know from his eponymous brand days, the people in the team were happy, felt empowered and still, he is professional and charismatic so people fall for it.
I have never ever had a real conversation on Prada with anyone. I have always felt like everybody had that kind of mystique around her. People always used superlative to describe their time at Prada. They always had more to say about her husband than her really. I have always felt like she only hired people who idolized her lol.
Nicolas is very professional at Vuitton. He is a nice guy overall. But at Balenciaga already he was good but there was quite a lot of pressure on him at Balenciaga. The success of the non-dramatic aspect of his tenure at Vuitton may put him more at ease I would say…
